Just as an FYI...

Off of the east coast of Cyprus there is a tiny area that ships can go into but not come out of, it's right on the coast. Warning, do not go there. In my latest game I have a massive navy stuck there after defeating a massive egyptian navy that was sitting there. And they had me wondering why they wouldn't move that damned navy, so i attacked, and found out... :furious3:

Thanks for the tip....
on a related note, has anyone noticed that storms at sea are MUCH rarer in RTW? I've only ever seen one!

Natural events are kinda scary in RTW. I was shocked when I saw a volcano erupt on the map! And a few years later I saw a storm too. Amazing the sights to see around Sicily.

Nothing like transporting an heir on a ship to meet up with his new army. I got a message from the gods saying it was his ill fate to die in a storm on his way.

What? I've seen like 4 storms before! Maybe you guys just don't play the game enough...

Anyway, thanks for the tip. I have seen an Egyptian navy there, without the ability to move before btw.

I've seen one storm per campaign so far (on my 4th now.) They are too rare cos I typically play to 180ish BC and generally have a large navy.

There's an easy way to rescue fleets that have become stuck on land, whether river mouths or any other coastline...

- First unload any agents or troops you have onboard the ships
- Create a rally point at your nearest port, then drag it over immediately adjacent to a sea square next to your stuck fleet
- Drag your fleet to the rally point and it's now free! ~:)
- To tidy up, reset the rally point to the port and if desired, reload your agents and troops

Optionally, there's one of the cheats that enables you to move a unit to any coordinate, so you could use that instead.

I think it's also possible to free your ships if an enemy fleet is adjacent to them, with you attacking the enemy and your fleet then automoves into its position if you win. I'm 99% certain that's what happened in a game last night, but it was only after I clicked to attack that I realized my fleet looked like it was otherwise stuck on the coast.
