I was on VI for a bit today for the first time in a long while - been off exploring Rome.

Fighting was difficult since the command and control is different - more than once I missed a move when I tried to right click to send a unit - but there were 40 or so in lobby so there were some very good games.

I've been trying to understand if the RTW interface is really clumsy or is it just me and my preferences/reluctance to change.

I think as long as Rome is as it is, there will be life in the MTW VI lobby.

Hey Ichi!

With fellow FFers, we try to play online MTW-VI on wednesday, 9pm-midnight CET (euro) time.

Hope to see you then ~:)

Regarding the fact how much I love Medieval and how difficult Rome is to play, both in terms of bad connections, inability to join games et cetera, I would love to join and play a little bit of Medieval. :duel:

However, by this time only the old veterans are playing the game and I would have as much chance as a very fat cow in the swimming contest with very hungry sharks! ~

Could anyone make an assessment on how many M:TW players are still around - online? ~:grouphug:

Actually persons experienced in the game are currently the minority in the VI lobby, and that's somehow reasonable, considering the amount of time some people have spent during the last years playing the same game-engine constantly....on the other hand, there are some cases that can't be cured ~D

Max people I 've seen is about 70-75 during 20.00-22.00 GTM but numbers fluctuate constanly. Undisputable is the fact that MTW is welcoming more and more new and old players again (15 or so days ago it was 30-40 players max online). How long will this keep on, only CA and nostalgia can tell ~;)

Good to see that MTW multiplayer is still alive and kicking.
I joined the community fairly late, so there is still a lot to explore for me in that game too.

So, Voigtkampf, if you want another fat cow to keep you company in that swimming pool, just drop me a line and we can arrange something ~:)

I’ll make sure not to forget that, Nigel! As soon as I get some time, I’ll get back to this generous offer; and post an announcement that a big, fat and pretty dumb cow has entered the pool! ~D Rome somehow simply doesn’t provide it; though I like the 3D transition, it simply isn’t it, if you get my meaning… Both in terms of MP accessibility/playability and troubles with connections/lag/sync… And the surrounding also isn’t the most interesting one… GAH!

I might be playing M:TW online sooner then I thought! :duel:

Well it's good to see there's still some people online, I never even started playing MTW until last year and have found the vast majority of my games to be enjoyable, including the one's I've lost.

I've thought of going back to MTW for nostalgia purposes and considering the problems with Rome I think that time may be sooner rather than later.

On again for a bit tonight and found a mix of vets and new players.

Very much fun, the tactical aspects and control that make the game fun.

I played maybe 50 games of RTW online, then went back to MTW.

RTW doesnt hold a candle to the tactical possibilities presented by MTW MP.

I'm not interested in fluffy graphics, so its back to the Vikings for me! At least until the patch.

Can only agree with what have been said above. After a rapid drop in number of players following the release of rome the numbers now constantly get higher and more and more "veterans" are dropping by.

Im online rather often and am enjoying the game as allways. Many unknown players but also some old friends. Have been playing many games with my friend Heart.

In fact today the first mtv-vi tourney after rome release (as far as i know) is suppose to start. Not a big or complicated one but it shows mtw still is alive. Details of rules and teams can be found at the net.

Last night (Tuesday) about 0600 GMT I was alone in the lobby with Moodswng and ChatMonitor. Moodswng didn't reply and as we all know, Chatty either can't or won't host.

I've never been alone in the room with Chatty. I remember 189 in the lobby once, but last night was the smallest ever.

The next person to enter the lobby hosted a 1v1, in MTW!!

Gah!

I wonder what the current range of players in the lobby is? probably from a low of 1 (midweek, pre-dawn in Europe) to 60 or 70 max (Saturdays or Sundays?)

Last night I finally got around to playing MTW MP and for some reason I felt as excited before the battle as I felt when I first played MP. MTW just has an atmosphere that RTW can't match, you really don't notice it in SP, but for some reason playing MP just feels different.

I'm ranting, but it felt good to get that off my chest:)

Last night I had one of the best games for a while, 2 Bears and 2 cubs attacking a hill. On top was a considerable force (including 2 Prophets). It was very slow, send one archer unit at a time in loose, support with fast cav, try to get the elite troops with the arrows and ignore the cheap units at the front; once out of arrows replace with another units, and so on, with some fun skirmishes as they came down off their hill. Sadly I dropped when only 2 of the enemy remained, but for the hour I was playing, it was exciting, as it always is to overcome the odds in a long game.

You will find many old clan members and ronin, and some new clans and new ronin in VI these days, with numbers peaking from Thursday to Monday (euro - evening). Despite the odd one or two who you can put on ignore, it's remained a very friendly and competitive place.

Stopped playing for a few months and have just recently started playing again. Tried a cool mod for awhile but had to resort to standing on my head and closing one eye to get any kind of competition from the AI. Facing real opponents online is sooooooo much fun.

What I have found this week is that there is a very interesting mix of vets and newbies, and with the small lobby size this has made for some wild matchups with one or two killers joined by one or two rookies on each team.

I have had several games come down to me and one opponent after the others were routed (one particularly memorable fight with Chuck the Shadowbane after all our allies had routed and quit).

This weekend there were 70 plus on at times and there is a steady stream of familiar names that seem to be dropping in, and some newer peeps with some potential.

and Furi is on constantly so the lobby remains a hilarious place!

hi all,
not the worlds greatest poster here, but i have returned to MTW myself after completing the SP game of RTW and finding that RTW MP is basically Crap.

i think that MTW style of play is far superior to anythin that RTW offers ATM.

cya all in the MTW lobby

Have Fun

I am glad to see so many people are still playing MTW MP, especially as today was my first MP battle. Unsuprisingly I lost, charging up a hill with cavalry into a Swiss army :charge: :help: :furious3: ! But I will no better for next time. I was wondering if there were many clans still up and running, as i was thinking of starting a new clan for people who have just started playing MP recently. Also, how do you start a new Clan, and get it registered ettc, any1 want to help. I was also wondering what people's favourite multiplayer armies were, and what troops they took.

There are several active MTW clans - I'm biased but the best are playing VI. The best idea is to find people who are online when you are, that you enjoy playing with, and who can share info about the game.

I'd suggest hooking up with an existing clan, but if you wish to start your own then you probably want a website with a forum or bulletin board. Once you choose an identity and recruit some folks you can link to and from the various TW websites simply by requesting admins.

As far as choosing armies, be sure to save the replays of your games and then review them, paying attention to the other player's armies and tactics.

If you see me online please don't hesitate to say hi and we can chat some more about my armies and stuff.

*ignores laughs of better players*

I have to agree with Ichi's advice - especially as you are new to the game. Most of the older clans have been established for years and have training programmes/experienced mentors to help you. Even if you dont wish to join a clan, we are a 'mostly' friendly bunch who will always share with someone willing to learn :D.

Er...uh...how does one join a clan? (how's that for a newb question?)

Any suggestions as to which one?...I can beat the AI on Hard as English! (even the Byz) Lol. Have a feeling I'll get my head handed to me online for some reason. I'll be playing VI unless/until they fix Rome...even then I kind of like the MTW time period better.

Thanks

Find some guys that you enjoy fightng with and who are on at the same time of day you are on. Join their battles and visit their websites. Once you get to know some folks it wont be long before someone mentions the idea of joining.

If you are getting whooped dont be frain to ask for some help. Many vets are willing to teahc new players as you are the future of the game.

Just thought I'd add that I was on this afternoon after not playing for a while and was surprised to see as much as 91 people on at one time. I have a feeling VI will be strong until the RTW patch comes out.

BTW Good luck to those looking for clans ~;)
