View Full Version : Julii - MTW
Help me..
Haven't had enuff sleep playing this great game this weekend..
Just started the campaign, (just bought it couple days ago) and thankfully the game works fine with my 'ancient' rig. Pen IV 1.7, 256 SDRAMM , 64 MB g force 2 mmx , soundblaster 16(?) , XP home , 40 GB HDD , broken FDD , ASUS CD-RW , SONY DVD-ROM.... Well thank God it works fine (except slow loading time). I came to the point where I just finished the Gauls, and have some questions to ask. These questions migt have answers somewhere here so forgive me if I'm lazy to dig up...
1. Re-inforcement - is there anyway we can manually control it or just AI ? Is there a MTW style ?
2. When is the last date ? As of 1066 in MTW VI & 1453 in MTW.
3. Is brigands just pop up randomly even within our borders ? Or they must have come from outside but since I don't built watchtowers or have any units nearby then they can come undetected ?
4. Is there loyalty trait ? I mean is all our armies is loyal to their factions ? Even hired mercenaries ?
5. The town watch - how much is enuff per town/city ect ?
6. The marriage and courting between families - is there any Marriage proposal/requast ala MTW ?
7. My system - which makes the game run better ? Add more RAAAAAAAAMM or change to 128MB VGA card ?
ChiOw....
ps : would be thankful if anyone can answer my question.
ppps: anyone who ignore will have to answer to the might or my armies... LOL

Güenas...!!!
Let me see... mmm, i can helpyou in some things...
1)Reinforcements: You can control it if your army has a general/family member. if the army controlled by you no has a general/fm, and the other has a general, then you can't control this. I no see yet what happen if i have a captain, and the reinforces to.
2)I no have idea....
3)I think that rebels will popup randomly in the map, but i have some hotzones with rebels. I destroy it a lots of times, but they reappear. Example: The zone beetween Condate Redonum and the English Channel.
4)I no have idea....
5)unlike the MTW, the garrison is one of the minor solutions for happyness. I have a couple of huges cities, with 25000 people, and 10divisions of townwatch, and i have 70% of conformity. In the other hand, i have other huge city, with 1 unit of town watch and no problems. And in the scroll of the city information, displays the percentage of order by garrison. So, there is no way to know how many units are enough. In one ocassion, i have an antire army in a city, and this be popuped from the city and this becomes rebel city...
6)I no have idea....
7)You have an older system... your system don't support DDR memory, no has an 8X AGP slot, your mainboard probably has a Socket 423... so sadly...
You must upgrade to a new motherboard with new memory and change the CPU, memory and AGP VGA card.

Hi LestaT ~
My brief input:
1) You can only control 20 units at 1 time and only if re-inforcements are led by a captain. Therefore if your general has 10 units and the re-inforcements led by the captain has 10 you will control both armies. If both armies have 15 units you will only control 5 of the re-inforcements but as your units leave the field or are destroyed you will be able to take on other units up to the limit of 20.
5) The garrison required for a city is dependant on so many factors other than city size such as distance to capital, governor's managment/influence etc. An important point is that a garrison can only give you a maximum of 80% public order so having 20 units of town watch in a town with 500 inhabitants is wasteful.
You really must check out the guides in the Guide section. Our resident writer FrogBeastEgg has as usual produced another noteworthy effort!!

You probably should try to add another 256 MB stick of SDRAM to your system (assuming it has a single 256 MB stick now.) 512 MB of RAM is really needed with WinXP and the game will make use of extra RAM as well.
However, the vid card you listed is really ancient. If you are ready to buy a new card, I would not look at less than an ATI 9600 level card (and not the 9600 SE which is a 64 bit version of the card.) Avoid cards with SE or MX in the name. I'm not sure what Nvidia cards are good for RTW, but I would pass on all the MX cards, the 5200's and the 5600's (the 5600's are having serious driver issues with RTW for a number of folks.)

Just a quick note on your system -
I also have an older P4 on an older motherboard.
I do have half a gig of Rambus and a 5700 Ultra and after a bit of tweaking in WinXP, the game runs very smoothly with most video options cranked.
So hold off on the mobo swap for awhile (I am).
Slap in another stick of memory and upgrade your video card and you should be fine for the time being.
5600's can be ok, my 5600 XT runs RTW fine... crosses fingers.

My answers:
1. Re-inforcement - is there anyway we can manually control it or just AI ? Is there a MTW style ?
As has been stated, like MTW you can only have so many units on the field under your control at once. In the case of RTW this is 20. Now if the group of reinforcements are NOT lead by a general they will be under your control and as many as them as makes up 20 units in total will make their way onto the map... They will continue to move on to the map as units either route/withdraw off or are destroyed. One nice effect is you can see the re-enforcements stood off the edge of the map waiting to come on. If the re-enforcements are lead by a general (or are allied troops) they will not be under your command, but will not count towards you maximum of 20 units. Note that there is a suicide general thing going on with the AI at the moment which can be annoying if you end up controlling the wrong army in a battle...
2. When is the last date ? As of 1066 in MTW VI & 1453 in MTW.
14AD I believe
3. Is brigands just pop up randomly even within our borders ? Or they must have come from outside but since I don't built watchtowers or have any units nearby then they can come undetected ?
Popup is true, randomly is up for discussion....
4. Is there loyalty trait ? I mean is all our armies is loyal to their factions ? Even hired mercenaries ?
No, there is no loyalty trait or concept of loyalty in this game. Some generals will have VnVs that mention loyalty but this just effects their bribe cost. For controlling cities it is all about happiness or Public Order as it is known in RTW... Keep the plebs happy and they don't care who is in charge. Of course it is easier to keep them happy if you are from the same culture (measured by the percentage of building in settlement that are not of your culture) and are popular (Influence stat)...
No more civil wars by the look of things....
5. The town watch - how much is enuff per town/city ect ?
Big question... I don't know the full answer and it has to do with either the populate value of the settlement size (which are connected) and there is a limit after which adding further units makes no difference... I get by by making sure there is enough to maintance Public Order..
6. The marriage and courting between families - is there any Marriage proposal/requast ala MTW ?
No, big no... Your daughters are not seperate agents and find themselves husbands within your own factions ranks... These men join your family and become generals if you accept them, you can refuse any given potential husband... Diplomacy is all about cash and big armies...
7. My system - which makes the game run better ? Add more RAAAAAAAAMM or change to 128MB VGA card ?
Where to start... go up to 512 MB RAM and get new Gfx card as there is still some life in a 1.7 GHz machine...
Dear all,
Thanks. Just got me a 512 stick (still got 1 empty slot). Since I'm still at the office rite now will have to wait to get home... to Rome.. another endless night of slashing, burning, rampaging... The Spanish were exterminated as of 0345hrs (8+ GMT) last night...
Now on to Germania.... (while finding way to send urgent re-inforcement to the Brit isles... besieging Londinium with mostly mercenaries....)
ps: just with the lady didn't demand my services tonight..
