I don't know if it's just me, but i'm finding the new blue text on the brown background very hard to read.
I do have problems with certain colors, so it might very well be that i'm alone.

I can read it, if i lean forward and strain my eyes a bit, but it's far from comfortable.
I can solve it by highlighting the entire text, so it's not a big problem. But if others feel the same...?

Otherwise it looks great, it's very easy to navigate the site.

One alternative might be to change skins; scroll to (near) the bottom of the page; on the left, just above the advertisement, is a dialog box; click it to get a drop-down menu of skin choices. Try a few, and see if one is easier on your eyes.

Kukri, I believe Tocca is referring to the new skin of the front page, not the forums. The contrast seems fine to me, but then I don't have trouble with any colours.

Yes, thanks Gregoshi. That's what i was on about.
But, i'll be more specific since it's not apparent everywhere.
I'm not talking about the way it is at the startsite, where the news are.

The download pages are where i struggled. I'll give a link to a particulary hard page to read for me:
http://www.totalwar.org/Downloads/PHPMTW/FullCamp.php

The download links, in blue, on that background is very hard for me to read.
But, as i said, if i highlight everything (pressing CTRL+A) it works fine.

Aha! I see now. Thanks for the clarification, guys. The blue-on-clay isn't optimal, I agree. We'll see if brother barocca has some more tricks up his sleeve (he's been looking for user feedback). Maybe put the links on a white background, like the menu listings on the left of the page.

I agree with Tocca, the blue on "clay" is hard to read. You need a lighter background to read the blue clearly.

A quick hint for Tocan and others: "Select All" of the page to revert to negative colours. Things will become clearer. ~;)

Thanks, Mouzafphaerre, but I have to state that workaround should not really be necessary. Part of a good web design/colour scheme should be to use colours that just about everybody can see clearly and hence why a web designer requests feedback - as indeed barocca has done. I do not suffer from any colour blindness but always have difficulty in seeing dark blue text on a dark background. Although in this case the background is not particularly dark, the dark blue text is very small. It seems Tocca has the same problems as me with the blue on clay!

The really cool thing about this site is on the forum pages you can select your skin thereby selecting the colour scheme most appropriate for your individual preferences.

Ah, nice to hear i'm not alone in this! ~:)

Putting the links on a separate background like the menus, as Kuhkrikan suggested, sounds like a good solution. Altering the clay background maybe isn't as good since it needs to contrast to other things.
Making the whole background white (or any other light color) wouldn't look good i think.

Maybe it would be possible to choose a brighter blue color for all links?

fear not,
i am rebuilding all the site pages to look like this one,
http://www.totalwar.org/links/RTW_section.shtml

but it is a slow process,
I have made a new template for the site which requires me to edit every single page,
the old template was ok, but i found it unweildy, the background is forced onto every page (causing the difficulties you have mentioned) and i wanted to make it easier for authors to follow and understand.

Most sections were written by different authors and they have not followed the old template to the letter - so i have to fix all that too...

While rebuilding the pages i am trying to find/follow every internal link because i know we lost some content when the server crashed and for some inexplicable reason the missing pages are not in my download backups of the site, (it now takes Five 700MB CD's to backup the Org).
the missing stuff is mostly ancient - like all the cheat codes for Shogun so i have to either remake a new page or remove all the links to lost pages.

Plus the site is scattered amongst itself, so all content is also getting re-organised into easier to find/follow locations.

(hoping to have some free time in a couple of days)

Already I have had to remake 4 of the uploaders because they were "uniques" and could not be placed inside tables.

Once all that is done I have some new content for the site to add in.

:-)
Cheers,
B.

Looks great!
I can imagine that it's a lot of work, i was the webmaster for a small (tiny, to be honest) site earlier and it took quite a lot of work to redesign/edit that small site... or it might have been due to my (lack of) design skill. ~:)

Color blindness (even if mine isn't that severe) doesn't really make you a better webdesigner. LOL. So i gave up that "career".

You're doing a great job, my hat is off.

ps
whenever i have a half hour free i work a couple of pages too,

all the links off the center column here
http://www.totalwar.org/Downloads/Downloads.shtml#Top
now point at remade pages
- (some of the next level links are done/some are not done)

cheers,
B.

apparently men & women have quite different perceptions of the same colour combinations

strange to note that only men are colour blind though we have slightly higher movement recognition skills on average

Not entirely true. There are a lot more colorblind men than women, but there are colorblind women too. I think there's roughly ten times, or maybe it was 15times, as common in men.
The reason for this is that the color receptors in the genes are "tied" to the x-chromosome, of which men have one and women have two.
For a woman to be colorblind, BOTH her X-Chromosomes must be genetically affected with the SAME color-defect. Whereas the man will be colorblind if his single X-Chromosome is defect.

Very unfair in my view! LOL. ~:)

Download page is looking fab now, btw.

Yes, agreed. The new download page is great and very clear now!
