View Full Version : Does the AI blockade ports?
Having played the game several times, I have yet to see the AI blockade any ports. Has anyone seen this happen?
It would seem to me that the AI should be doing a lot more of this as it is an easy effective tactic.

It's happened to me a grand total of once.
I am in my 4th unfinished campaign and I haven't seen it yet.
Most of the time the AI doesn't even try to remove my blockade even when it has plenty of boats to accomplish the task. But if I start sinking boats it will apply full force to kill my fleet.
Spain has blockaded two of my ports so far in one campaign, most recently Narbo Something (can't remember the full name) while playing as the Julii h/h, around year 245 BC. Both times it was while we were neutral to each other, the most recent just about immediately after they agreed to a ceasefire. The embarrassing thing is, I didn't have a fleet with enough ships to challenge the most recent blockade for another couple of turns. Luckily I just finished building my first shipwright at that time so I was finally able to build some triremes and end their constant harrassment of my troop-carrying fleets.

Never seen it initiate nor break a blockade.
Ive seen it a few times, mostly from Spain
I had an alliance/trade rights with them and out of nowhere they blockade Palam, thus starting a war, then the next turn remove the blockade and sail away and I never hear from them again... resourceful dont you think?
Yes they do and they will try to lift the blockades unfortanately they rarely ever have there big fleets in there own waters.
Its only happened to me as the Romans, that's about it. I'm now the Spartans, and we have the mighteiest fleet that sails of over 60 ships. In a cluster that is.
I've had the AI blockade my ports. Sometimes, they do it like the Italians and Sicilians attacking your ships in MTW. They have nothing to gain, they just do it out of spite. Case in point, I have an alliance with the Greeks as Pontus. They blockade one of my ports in the eastern Aegean. It's not a good idea declaring war on me considering they're outnumbered by me in the east of the Aegean and they're fighting the Brutii in their own homeland. Needless to say, I captured both of their eastern Aegean possessions.

I've seen the AI blockade me and others a few times. Most of the time it was a Roman fleet doing the work (probably a Senate mission.)

Happend tome several times, most of the times the ai does block a port and starts a war especialy when you dont have a navy it can attack, only keeps the blockade for one turn though

I had two ports blockaded in the one turn. I was the Julii and the Iberians blockaded Narbo and Massila together with big fleets. I lost a shit load of income too, however, Narbo has mines, so that's a good money spinner.

If you have a ship into the port AI don't block it, I don't know if you can.
I have empty ports blocked 4 or 5 times.

Actually, I had ships in a port and the AI blockaded it, and when I attacked them, we had about the same number of men, but I lost, and the ships were sunk even though if it was in the open seas they would just row like hell outta there.
Nope, in 2 Roman campaigns the AI has never blockaded my ports.

I've seen blockades by the Ai several times. It blocked my ports and those of other AI factions as well. It's true though that it seldom keeps it for more than one turn. Same is true for cities. 1 or 2 turns and they leave. I've also seen my blockading ships being attacked and had my ships attacked in my own port by the Romans at Tarsus.
All on VH iirc.

Blockade is too easy. It should take quite a few boats to enforce a blockade. The higher the port level, the harder the blockade--more boats should be required. This is analagous to moving a full stack army with a single ship.
If CA makes the AI more likely to blockade, then worldwide trade is going to plummet from those huge stacks of AI boats currently doing nothing. Lack of decisive battles and lack of storms destroying fleets exacerbates the problem.
And boats in port should get a fixed amount of defense added when attacked dependent on the level of port.

I've only been blockaded a couple of times. But they leave after a turn or two. Not even any need to drive them off. What's worse, they often don't protest when you blockade them, and seldom attack your ships while sitting in port. It's kinda funny to see stack upon stack of enemy all over the water, but you can usually still get around and transport troops between them with impunity simply by dashing from port to port. Maybe they don't see you? ~

Anyone else been blockaded by the mighty Scythian Navy? ~:)
That shocked me, but I got a bigger shock when my only boat nearby ran into a battle with them_91 scyth vs. 40 armenians; Clear Victory for Armenia! All those horses must get in the way on a ship...

Yes, a couple weeks ago in my last campaign.
It happened at the most inopportune time. I'd lost my *first* battle ever in RTW, my economy was going down the tubes, I had few ships, and then the AI blockades two of Ports sending my economics into a tailspin.
I tried attacking the AI ships, but I just didn't have enough, game over!
Note, I was playing the Total Realsim 2.2 mod with Macroi's *Shield* mod.
Think if the AI should blockade and battle of all your blockades, with the amount of ships the AI builds they could ruin your economy total.
Lets pray they dont get patched and start to do their jobs.

Yes. The annoying Scythians have been blockading my ports on and off for the last ten years in my Macedonian campaign. I razed Campus Scythii to punish them, but they keep on coming back. I'm thinking of razing Chersonesus and Tanais, but I'm a little tied up with the Romans at the moment.
