Reading these forums I realized that the senate is giving other missions like make faction X protectorate, obtain military access, etc. All I've gotten so far (and I'm into my 2nd imperial campaign) is blockade port and take city. The first campaign I played M/M now playing VH/H. Anyone else have a similar problem?

I have played four imperial campaigns, and so far I have gotten blockade port, take city and get trade agreement missions. And the hated suicide mission.I think maybie you would get more and more advanced missions if you made sure you completed all given senate missions.

Strange one could think they would trust you with morea advanced missions once you have prooved that your up to it. But fear not, they will get you the suicide mission once they realize you can kill wipe them out in a few turns. But for the other missions, I havent gotten the protectorate mission, and for that I am glad I have never been able to make any nation, no matter how small and weak they have been and how powerfull and glorios my empire have been.

My last Senate mission to blockade Corinth, was a complete nightmare, I had a fleet close to the port but an allied Brutti fleet was sitting on the port so I couldn't blockade it.... GGrrrr.

I just looked at the descr_senate.txt file in the data folder of RTW. There is a lot of different types of missions described there that I've never seen: assasinate, give city, get trade rights, get alliance, etc.. It is kind of annoying as I think these would make the game more interesting and perhaps a bit more challenging. I'm about halfway through (have 25 provinces) with my Brutii campaign (VH/H) and all I've seen is blockade port and take city. Will the other missions really come later in the game or have I come across some rare bug?? So lets hear it, what missions have you been given?

It depends on your standing among the senators.
If the Senate likes you they give you easy missions, if they dont (my case) they send you to blockade a port in Ireland and give you 3 turns to get there, and give you other impossible missions.
BTW, if you accomplish the impossible missions they probably hate you even more, so.... Ye be warned.

In my case I have the following missions:
blockade port
Take City
Get trade rights with...
Ally with...
and the always present... get out of X land!!!
I'm at the maximum of people loyalty (how do you say plebe in english?) and i'm wondering when they will get my suicide mission! What if I do that? Do I win a prize or something like that?

I'm still playing my first campaign and recieved the "commit suicide" mission. I naturally declined, but was curious as to what would happen if I followed the Senates instructions and had my faction leader commit suicide? Would they just tell the successor to kill himself as well?
I got the "give city" mission once.
Playing as Julii I bribed a city away from my allies the Brutii and the senate gave me a mission to give it back.
Funnily enough, they wouldn't take it.
there is a mission where they ask you to kill your leader?
^The senate gives you the suicide missions when they fear your factions power. This happens so I've been told when your popularity with the peasants, which is what plebian means BTW, is maxed out and the senate fears the people will follow you and not them.
On topic, the senate missions I have recieved in order of freguency;
Blockade port
take settlement
get trade agreement
retake rebel settlment
obtain surrender
get out of allies land
form alliance
return settlement
I have been getting senate missions to blockage greek ports. I refuse to do them, but have found that letting provinces rebel and completing the senate mission to retake them keeps me a little better in the senates books.

well... I finally finished my VH/H campaign with the Brutii. it took longer than I expected because I started losing interest in the game after conquering 25 provinces or so. oh and by the way even when the senate was pissed at me I got no missions other than blockade some stupid port some place we don't care about and take random cities.
my biggest disappointment with this game is the lack of quality open field battles. AI loves hiding in its cities. finally when the civil war broke out I had a few OK open field battles. I was amazed to see how easily I beat the other Romans. I took Rome when I had about 40 provinces. Right after that battle the game crashed and I lost my progress. I wasn't happy about that to say the least. So I just started autoresolving all battles and bribing everything in sight. The game was over in an hour after that!! That sums it up for me. I haven't decide if its worth trying a harder faction like the Carthaginians or if I should just wait for the patch.
