I have a somewhat lower end pc.
1400 tbird
512 ddr 266
geforce4 420mx
anyway, I noticed I can bump all the detail to maximum....including the number of troops in a unit to max.
Ive had 4 armies on the board each with 16 units of 200 men.
4 armies with 3200 men each at one time and as long as Im on a map with little in the way of trees, It runs great.
But if I take 1/4 of that and play on a map with a fair amount of trees, it becomes unplayable at points.
It keeps me from enjoying the campaigns as I get to parts where Im on those maps with lots of trees and cant really enjoy it much.
upgrading my pc isnt an option.
I can do it financially, but wont.
So my qeustion is, if I go thru the campaign maps with the editor and remove the buld of the trees from the maps Im having trouble on, will that adversely affect the game if Im careful to only remove the trees ?
Thanks for the help :)

oh, and somethin else I noticed.
I was having trouble with the sound some causing hangups.
I turned off the sound hardware acceleration in windows and it doesnt do the stutter thing at all now.
I cant believe I missed this game for as long as I did.
some of the battles are fantastic.
I play a lot of the custom games just a 30 minute battle or something.
The AI is very good too.
It really does a good job at trying to draw me into missle range and then does just what Id do and send a quick attack with cavalry and too take out archers.
I love a game thats hard to win and this one is pretty good at it.

One more thing.
I was just playing a custom game.
I have my own large map that has nothing on it.
I started the game with two full armies of misxed troops...just clicked till the 16 boxes were full but no more than one of each unit type.
When i started the game it was horrible acting.
Totally unplayable.
So, I kept EVERYTHING the same, except i changed all the boxes to 200 peasants for both armies.
At this point there were a LOT more men on the battlefield, but it ran smooth as a babies bottom, even with about 40% more troops on the ground.
Does anyone know why having the mixture of troops could do that?
Is there an issue with any of the individual troops that I dont know about?
Any help will do :)
thanks
When I started playing (STW) I had a similar comp as you describe, and it worked thru MTW VI. But I had to turn down some of the graphics, and play with normal units.
Also, turn off the fauna, and it ran great no matter what terrain or landscape.

Yeah. I tried like every combination of things to get it to run good thru the campaigns.
Ive turned it down to 640x480 and even ran no sound to see if that wouid help.
It did, but not near enough.
Its very distressing only because I have 4 times the minimum requirements listed on the box.
It said a p11 350......i have a 1400 tbird........it says 16 meg mem video card......I have 64......even if you double the minimums and called it ''recommnded requirements'' one would think that having double that that the game would be running circles even on the most detailed maps.
Well, anyway, I really enjoy the custom battles the most anyway.
If Im gonna play a boardgame, Id prefer pullin out LOTR Risk and calling over a friend or something. So the game is much more than I expected and Im totally over joyed with it.
I just have to figure things out like this and the thing with the armies is going to eat at me till I understand why I can have 12000 peasants on a map and it runs great, but mix em up and I cant put a 10th of that on the same map without it stuttering too badly to play.
ah well.......thanks for the help :)

and the more i play with it, the more confusing this is getting.
I was playing a campaign yesterday.
I was on one map that Ive played 25 times or so in single battles with thousands of troops (6400 total)
It plays great in when i just make a army and jump into the fight, but the same map, with the same settings played like crap with only about 800 total troops on the board in campaign mode.
This is enough to drive one nuts as there seems now to be no rhyme or reason to it.
I even turned up all the details, and maxed out 4 armies turned up the sound to the highest levels and put the resolution on 1600 x 1200 and fighting a single battle it does great.
Does anyone have any sites that have like technical issue resolution for the game I could look at ?:)
thanks :)
