P.S. We all know that Cataphract Elephants are the best elephants! Cataphract=armoured


Mine are Urban Cohort or Arcani because Urbans are awesome and Arcani are cool and very good (Rome), Spartan Hoplites (Greek City States), dont have a light infantry favorite, Greek Cavalry (Greeks), Companion Cavalry (Greeks) though they have less armour than Cataphracts I prefer great charge! Mercenary peltasts easy to find and found almost everywhere. I don't have one because I have not played a cavalry archer faction. I may be wrong but I think Cataphract Archers are the only ones please correct me if I am wrong. Siege tower or repeating ballistas, because siege towers can be used as them if used properly! War dogs I love to have infantry or cavalry fighting a unit and then have them have to cntend with twice as many opponents as crazed dogs assault them!

Pigs.... Sorry, I just chuckled for a while the first time I used them. Got them as a gift from the Senate. Whats more fun then lighting your livestock on fire and send them at the enemy. LOL... now that is psychological warfare, its not like you can reason with them, bribe them or scare them off at this point... they are ON FIRE. Thats just too funny.

Being a phalanx fan, I prefer the Spartan hoplites and silver shield pikemen. I also dig the Cretan Archers (awesome range, ROF and lethality) for best support unit for phalanx, and the kataphracts or companions for best finish-them-off cavalry.

Playing the Romans I liked the Equites.
Playing the Greec I liked Armoured Hoplites. Extremely tough and faster to build than Spartans.
Crrrretian Arrrrchers are a must whenever you can get them.
Playing the Egyptians I kinda liked the Chariot Archers.
But I finally settled with Parthia, being an old HA-Fan, and really came to like vanilla HA and of course Persian Cavalry. Used correctly they can win against all odds.

Breton light chariots - The life blood of the britons, can't do without them. Two units of these doomsday machines destroy several Gaul warbands + they're extremely cheap.

Chosen Swordsmen - you can get them quicker than romans get their reforms. chop chop :duel:

Berserkers - so drunk they can take three hits before noticing

HAs - self explanatory. Can take on everything, when used in large numbers.

Heavy Infantry: Praetorian Cohort (they're just cool)
Pikemen: Poeni Infantry (my main stay infantry)
Light Infantry: Scutarii (are awesome with some experience and weaopn upgrades)
Light Cav: Long Shield Cavalry (actually a medium cav unit, but cheap and reliable. Also carry a punch when needed.)
Heavy Cavalry: Sacred Band Cavalry (battle winners IMO)
Skirmishers: Cilician Pirates (best skirmishers in the game)
Bowmen: Balearic Slingers (are almost more devastating than archers, especially at close range.)
Cavalry Archers: Numidian Cavalry (pretty much a unit capable of doing lots of stuff. Very versatile and has good speed too.)

I rarely leave home without slingers. They're especially amusing when the AI forgets to bring any light troops. Doh!

The war dogs are fun in a fire and forget way, though like all the less than entirely historically accurate units I only allow myself to build one unit of them per empire. Remarkable regenerative powers too.

Well i havent played that much and cant figured out which faction i like most, last night i was playing the Macedonians (which its a interesting faction) when i made trade/share map/alliance with Greeks Capital.

Anyway 3 turns later they betrayed me and took one small city above Greek's Capital. AIs kinda dumb sometimes i guess, they were already at war with Romans so fucked me too huh? I gotta say those stupid idiots are asking for it...

I pumped up alot of Light Lancers; when i fought the generals and they have Armoured Hoplites i was wondering how im gonna deal with them. So i let one A. Hoplite charged at one of my Light Lancer and have two more Light Lancers swing around behing them and FULL CHARGE!

Hard to believe i only lost one Lancer and they all got killed within seconds in that fight or they had 40 or 60 and i had 27x3 lancers. They were many more in the samn fight but they didnt last long. One thing about those hoplites, they'er slow. Greeks sure made one dumb move against me, now the Capital is taken as well, Thank for my spies for open the gates!

I would say my favorite units prob be Diplomats, Spies and Assassins.

Light Combat Infantry: Velite Gladiators... very tough guys.
Missile: Cretian Archers, or Balearic/Rhodian slingers.
Pike: Armoured Hoplites, Better armoured than Spartans, take less time to train and almost as tough.
Heavy Inf: Urban Cohorts... be afraid be very afraid.
light Cavalry: Persian Cavalry, "Catch me if you can... And be shot at while trying!!"
Heavy Cavalry: Cataphracts... The finest Laxative denarii can buy.

Urban Cohorts because they are veeery good and expendable. Armoured Hoplites because that's the sort of thing i think of when someone says the word greece. Cataphracts because they are nearly unbeatable (they massacred an entire army belonging to me) and Cretan Archers because they are so good!!

The best unit in the game! Weaken your enamies with arrows then close in for the kill.

Ballista's (scorpions) and Slingers.

Shooting guys off the walls with scorpions during a siege is a site to behold. They go flying and screaming 200 metres until they hit a building then fall straight down to the ground. That was fun to watch.

Slingers being able to hit a formation behind the one they are aiming at if they miss the first row. Just don't like the size of the shots they use, it's not scaled right. Looking at them on the ground they look like grey basketballs in relation to the units standing near them. Whats up with that?

One of my mission i completed early, the Senate gave me one broze exp. scorpion. Wow how nice. Cant believe how much damage they can do.

Just you wait until you slay an enemy Captain in that manner!! I took some potshots at a unit of Spartan hoplites and the sight of him flying off that wall so fast in the little close-up shot really made me laugh!! ~D

Everyone try using incendiary pigs against elephants and then following it up with heavy siege engine fire of any sort, a sight to see! Do this in custom battle and check out how the pigs keep the elephants from getting near the weapons and then go rampant! ~:cheers:
