has this happened to anyone else
an example would be in the beginning of the red family campaign when you take that rebel town next to your provinces. I got tired of playing this battle, having my archers and velitates(sp?) whittle the enemy down to 3 guys each and have my cavalry charge in and finish them off with no casualties on my side. So I decided to auto battle it, the computer should be smart enough to finish with 10 casualties on my side tops... I get the report back and I won (surprise!) but both my generals (family members nonetheless) were slain as well as my archers...
so Im assuming my 4 star general commanded my archers to charge into a group of 120 enemy men and try to melee them to death... probably killing 3 before they were wiped out... then charged in themselves on a suicide run into a spear wall, thus killing themselves
if thats the game plan of a 4 star general against peasants and a few spearmen then I shall never auto battle again!

Autocalc doesn't do that. It does a number crunch with a lot of randomness thrown it. What's the strength of units on each side? Check. How many casualties can that strength cause? Check. Assign randomly. Check. One side eliminated? Check. Rinse, repeat. I don't know if that's the exact sequence, but it's got to be something along those lines. Casualties can be minor, or wayyyyy out of proportion. Units that shouldn't suffer a loss at all will be gutted. Never ever use autocalc unless you have to, or are willing to live with the potentially screwy results.
