I just had the missing ladders bug show up in my game. I am assaulting Egypt's Memphis, and had two ladders and a tower. However, only the tower showed up. Add one more anecdotal story on this one.

Unmodded installation, playing Seleucids on Medium/Medium.

My army consists of:

Two archer units

Three units of Levy Pikemen

Greek Cavalry unit

Camel Archer unit

General.

I almost always prefer multiple ladders. Now I'm faced with either reloading, or trying to take a wall section with pike levy soldiers without being able to attack from two directions. Is there an "Execute the Engineering Teams" option?

What level of wall was it? If it's large or better, the ladders are too short, and don't show up. The bug is allowing you to build ladders at all, if that's the case.

Hmmmm ... the walls turn out to be Large walls. I thought the siege tower looked different.

I don't mind not being able to use ladders on the larger wall sizes, however, if that's the case, you shouldn't be allowed to build them. Maybe the walls were upgraded in the turn between ordering the ladders and completion?

Anyway, the Egyptians didn't defend the walls so Memphis is in my hands.

That couldn't happen, because all building stops when a town is under siege.

Did you have enough resources to build all the siege equipment in one go? You can add all sorts of items to the building queue for siege equipment but there is a little counter down the bottom that tells you how long it is going to take. Often if you click on the siege a turn later you will see an item only half built and other items queuing up.

No, it was all built in one turn (I add stuff until it changes to "2" then remove the last item). The problem was that the AI city had size 2 stone walls. This was the first time I'd attacked such a city. I found it quite annoying that the walls were almost higher than you could get the camera, which made managing units on top of the wall a little difficult.

But boy is there a lot of space on those walls! Regular stone walls allow only a few men between the front and the back, but with larger walls, you can almost set up a phalanx up there! (too bad it won't let ya ~:) )

Oh, and if you put the camera inside a siege tower on the bigger wall sizes you can see the anti-grav unit lifting the men up to the top of the tower. It's quite amusing as there is no detail on the inside (no ladders and stuff), I guess they originally intended to keep the camera outside.

My conclusion is it's like Quillan said, the game let me build ladders when it wasn't supposed to.

I know i've seen this question before, and i'm pretty sure that Quillan is correct: u can build ladders when assaulting a town with large stone walls, but once you assault, the game says "ladders can't be used on large walls" and doesn't put them on the field.

Exactly. It's something that happens regularly.
Exception : when fighting Greeks. As their large and epic walls are bugged and don't show up on the battle map, the assaulter can use his ladder, as he only have to face a regular stone wall.
