I gotta say the best unit in RTW are Wardogs as well Warhounds, why becuz they are cheap and can be outnumbered severally.

Never seen so many of them roaming all over the enemy formations, it was total CHAOS!

Having few good support incase they break thru to protect your generals.

Imagining at the beginning when you can save up that many dogs which take two turns or one full year to recruit them.

While several Armies of generals, supports as well horde of wardogs it gonna be hairy fight. The best when the dogs die, they come back automatically. Just dont lose the handlers that handle the dogs.

Dogs are good fighters but they go berserk in battle just like elephants, pigs and chariots. I've had a unit of dogs chase and kill/maim one of my hastati units that was chasing a routing gaul unit. :disappointed:
I can only guess they'd rather bite meaty, juicy roman legs than ugly and incredibly hairy gaul ones. ~D

The dogs are fun!

Rover never lets up when chasing a unit and looks for more if they run out of meat. Very dedicated soldiers ~:)

I was playing a custom battle yesterday. I was with the britons, besieged in a small village and the enemy had a huge julii army amassed outside my gate, complete with onagers (i have rome total realism). The AI punched a hole in my palisade with the catapults and in comes the entire melee force (many triarii/hastati/principes/ two auxiliaries, one equites, the general and one samnite gladiator unit) against a few swordsmen, warbands and hurler units, as it was I could barely hold on. So i sent two wardog units through a second hole behind the crowded roman army. What happened is beyond belief: they immediatly routed and with nowhere to go they were destroyed completely in about a minute. One of my wardogs had 881 kills! Before that I felt that they were totally worthless...

Well they are fun to have, for example if you have enemy cavalry charging at ya, send one or two wardogs toward them to stop the charge.

I just fought the Gauls eariler today and i had 3x48 wardogs plus two town watch, one light cavarly and a general. I was outnumbered by 2 to 1 and guess what thank for the dogs it really routed them and make things much easier for me to capture one villiage (mission from the senates).

It like bring flock of pigeons to a cat! ~

They would just go for each others handlers. I'm sure it would be over quite quick. For both sides.
