Does anyone knows???

Probably soon.

Lots of pie.
Seriously, at least a fix for the protectorate bug. Knowing the M:TW patch, it'll probably deal with both bugs and gameplay issues.

And while you're at it, just exactly how long is that piece of string?

~;)

I'm stating the obvious when I say it's 'done when it's done', and there's bound to be plenty of tweaks and whatnot thanks to all the feedback that's been pouring in since release...

I think AI is most important, its stupid to see 5 full enemy armies walking around your city with 600 men on campaign map and when they attack they attack with only one army which is using only ONE siege tower and ONE ram...they deploy tower, ram is in the flames and still they can attack trough the tower but they just start to run away.....extremly idiotic, spoils the game play for at least 50% if gameplay is cca 95% (should be).

I dont play the game any more because its frustrating. AI doesnt attack me, my frendly army generals are suicidal maniacs...etc. GAME SUCK for now, but globally game is suberb (without this damn bugs)!!!

~;)

That one's easy: Twice the distance from the center to either end......now where's my patch?

seems like they are being pretty tight lipped about the patch.

makes no sense to me they already have our money why not let us know whats going on? ppl might whine if its 1 week late or something?

whiners be damned, i'm tired of checking these boards and the site everyday to see if the game is patched yet, and also need to know if i need to find a new game or if multiplayer will be viable ever.

whos with me?

They may have our money but there is all the newby xmas trade to milk yet.

I notice on the 'official' site the moderators claim CA are refusing to comment on the patch. Might put unsuspecting gamers off being milked and then having to wait for a patch.

Mind you, for many 15 year olds who have just graduated from Medal of Honour I am sure its a rewarding game unpatched.

I'm totally with you guys. I'm sure the developers at CA are a great bunch and working hard on the patch. What I don't like is the official CA policy. I guess if they formally acknowledge that the game has issues and they are working on them it might kill their Christmas sales or something... On the other hand, I think they are starting to lose devoted fans each passing day.

And again I ask...did they ever heard for BETA TESTING???? Think not...

Although I am waiting eagerly for the patch, I would like to dispel the myth that all of us who are seasoned gamers are totally frustrated by the game in its current state. I've been playing the campaign with joy since release, and while I quickly learned to adjust to some of the bugs (never allowing two generals close enough to each other to create an AI-controlled reinforcement situation, for example), overall I have to say that the bugs really don't cause me grief. My experience with the previous Total War games has me knowing pretty well what to expect: a nice patch will come out, and the game will be greatly improved, and then a nice expansion will come out, and the game will be even more greatly improved.

And as far as the beta testing complaints are concerned, while I don't disagree, I point out that it could be worse. I slogged through Star Wars Galaxies for about a year, constantly hoping that it would get better with each patch, and finally (mercifully) I got fed up and stopped. Yes, it's a drastic comparison (awful vs. not-too-bad-but-needs-improvement), but there are many good games released with far worse bugs than RTW.

I heard that! In terms of a patch it's pretty useless to speculate on when it will be released, i'm sure the news will reach the Org as soon as it's available.

I stopped playing almost a month ago. I will wait for the new patch before playing again. I honestly wish I would have waited to drop the money on this game until after it was patched, but as long as its been in production I had NO IDEA it would take this long and be as neccessary.

Oh well, I have GTA:SA and Halo 2 to keep me occupied until then.

Me too. They should release several small patches rather than wait for the mother lode patch.

Off to some other gaming goodness... :)

I don't know about, small patchs. Sure it would be less fustrating to us long time fans becuase we know that in the end it will be great, but of you see a game with a patch coming out for it every other week what is the first thing that came to mind? Terribly buggy game. I am sure they will release the patch BEFORE or during chirstmass, so that they can secure sales. Though I would still appreciate it if CA at least SAID they where working full on a patch.
Anyway we are lucky, like said above, its not soo bad. I keep remembering the Disaster that was Temple of Elemental Evil at lauch. Was acknowledged as a good game but the publishers (money milkers) pushed it to released, refusing to wait for the latest build. That is just sad and unethical.

Ditto on the stopped playing. Dawn of War and WoW beta (soon to be retail!) here. It's a shame few companies operate like Blizzard. I dislike how long it takes for their games to come out, but at least I know that it's often almost perfect fresh out of the box. They spend a TON of time on alphas and betas. Relic did an awesome job on DoW too actually.

There was an interview with Mike Simpson in the latest issue of Edge. In it he said: "At this point about 20 (out of an overall team of 77) people are spending some or all of their time working on the patch."

I stopped playing the moment WoW went into open beta. I had lost some interest in it because of the epic development phase but the beta was really good. Sure, there were lots of crashes, but I think the retail game will be more optimized. It was also really fun fighting those infernals and doomguards during the last few hours of the beta. ~D

I'll be playing RTW again until Monday. I'm going WoW retail after that.

It's a UK magazine but it does sell world wide. I get mine by subscription now because it's nearly impossible to find in my city; all the news agents prefer to stock those awful rags like official PS2 magazine instead of a magazine that has more words than pictures and assumes the reader has an IQ in at least double figures. It's not an obscure magazine, so you should find it in the big news agents like WH Smiths, assuming your branch is less crap than mine.

Thanks for the link, Ringo. When the patch does come out, I hope it includes the one thing I NOW want more than any other change. I want the option to FORCE my archers to fire at each other. It's no more than right, and well past pay-back time. ~:)

yeah, FF is out of control. I don't mind how it's implimented in regard to FF at the point of impact (if you have friendly melee attacking an nme unit you're also firing on). I DO have a problem with the amount of FF that occurs at the point of firing. I mean really, if you have 1 unit of Hastati, and they are in five ranks, with no more than 1 foot between each rank, and they manage to through all their pila with out killing any of their own guys, but then you have another unit of Hastati five feet in front of the firing Hastati, and they take like 10% casualties...that's just BS.

It makes no sense that you don't kill the guys 1 ft in front of you but you do kill the guys 5 ft in front of you, even though your target is like 20 yards away...

Anywho, that rant's not really on topic. The Edge website didn't seem to have any info (just how to subscribe) so would you mind copy/pasting the part of the article that talked about RTW and the upcoming patch? Especially any parts about what is going to be fixed, how, and when.

Friendly fire is stupid and should be excluded in new patch.

I will not buy next TW game until I see the games is really good........I trusted CA...not anymore!!!

Posting a scan of the article or copying the whole thing out would breach the magazine's copyright; we've already had one irate journalist descend on us because of that. I'll summarise with a few quotes instead.

Mike talks about what happened on the day RTW went gold; most people ended up playing the game again, working through another testing loop, or playing Mashed on the PS2. People gradually drifted away until the last people went at 4AM.

The last thing to be fixed before the game went gold was a bug involving assassins trying to kill someone who had just died of old age. He doesn't say what happened when the bug fired, only that it had unexpected side effects. They wanted to disable the log files for tracking stats on traits and advice but they didn't get it done in time.

Overall he's quite pleased with the way marketing had got RTW on prominent display in the shops.

They are paying a lot of attention to gamerankings.com; they also care about the reviews. They were pleased with the Edge review (9/10) and with the fact they are currently the 7th best PC game of all time ratings wise. The Gameinformer review (77%) upset CA quite a bit.

The response from players has been overwhelming.
The hardcore fans do dig deep, and come up with some very insightful comments. Usually we're aware of the issues, but it does help us develop a consensus view on the way to deal with them. He is impressed with the modders and their work.

Then there's the bit about the patch I already posted the important bit of.

Then there's a bit about their revolution/evolution two game approach.

What's next? They have a huge list of things they would like to do with TW.
new technologies, new mechanics for gameplay and whole new areas we haven't even included in the games so far. Our aim is to make the 'perfect' strategy game that everyone will enjoy. They have a secret project but they aren't talking about it yet.

I heard that the license for the Smurfs was just picked up by a UK strategy-game developer...

I wish I could see what the GameInformer review said, but you have to have a subscription to view the article. I know you said they gave RTW a 77%, I just want to know what they cited as the reasons.
