View Full Version : What Specification are peoples PCs?

Hi I was just wondering what is the average spec. of the PC's playing RTW.

I'm running an underspec. machine and the game is running fine ( Cursor is a bit slow on the Strategy map.) I have even got the Graphic details off Minimum in the battles and so far * looks for wood to touch * it seems to be playing really well. I did think that I would have had to upgrade to play.

My machine is an Athlon 700 with 512 ram and a Ge-force3 titanium 200.

What machines is are you all using?

I've got a 2.5g P4 with a 512 mb ddr ram, 128 mb Fx5600 XT so am within the specs, run everything on medium with no pros

An older P4 1.4 with 512MB of Rambus, GeFart 5700 Ultra, SB Audigy, Win2K and WinXP.
Large unit size with pretty much all graphics settings maxed (or on high).
Runs like a champ in XP; like a 1 legged dog in 2K.

I have

Athlon 2700+
1 gig ddr ram
radeon 9700pro

Its almost 2 years old now but runs RTW flawlessly with everything on. Having said that my bank balance never did recover from the shock of buying it.

I can definitely relate.
Trying to 'prepare' my bank account for the impending system upgrade.
Now if I can only 'prepare' my wife for it .................

2.8 Ghz P4
1 gig of RAM (dual channel DDR)
radeon 9600 se

My computer can barely handle huge units with low settings on. This, of course, is due to my bargain-bin video card. On large units, my computer does just fine.

1800 mhz Athlon
5200 gForce
256 mb Ram

Works very well except the mouse cursor. The combination of the slow mouse movment as well as 'mouse lag' on both battle and campaign maps does fustrate me some, but I'm learning to ignore it.

Dual 4Ghz processors
4 Gigs of RAM
1 Gig video card

Now I just need the program that Time Commanders and Decisive Battles ran off of.

OK reality check

1.49 GHZ processor
512 megs of RAM
256 meg video card

works fine with 5000 men on the battlefield at full graphics. Although the game needs to be restarted after a few battles

XP 2400@2316 FSB210x11 1:1
512 Mb PC3200

Water Cooled.

Everything on High settings and runs well. Though I feel more RAM would improve things even better.

P4 1.6ghz
512mb ram
GF2MX200 (64 mb)

I played awhile on huge unit settings with the other stuff on low to medium, ran fine in battles but had slowdown in seiges. I've since switched to large unit sizes not because of the slowdown, just for gameplay concerns with how the AI deals with huge unit sizes. Early on 240 men is alot for the barb factions and I didn't want them to end up crippled.

Lotsa fine machinery here, hehe. ~D

I have a 2,2 GHZ P4, with 512 MB RAM, 64 MB Geforce 4 MX 440 display card, and SB Live! Wave Device for sound. Package delivered by Hewlett Packard.

I'm able to run both MTW and RTW just fine, though I can't use any settings above medium when playing RTW. Lag can also occur during the huge showdowns, but this happens to just about everyone from what I've learned. :computer:

2.8 Ghz Intel P4
512 DDR RAM
ATI 9200 128 mb

Have tried 6 armies of 4800 men~30000 on everything on low still some irkiness but playable...
For the people with big rigs try this:

Mod the archers to 60 men base x4=240 make 3v3 custom battle with all settings maxed now when the 30000 archers start shooting flaming arrows the pwoer of you pc will be tested...

ROME TOTAL WAR TOP SPECS ARE HIGHER THAN DOOM3 TOP SPECS!!!

Wow my little Athlon 700 seems to be the lowest spec. here! ~:)
I see that on some for the higher end machines people are still getting the slowdown of the cursor on the strategy map, I wonder why?

Happy gaming ~:grouphug:

P4 1.7
64 MB GeForce 2
256 MB SDRam (just bought a stick of 512 MB but haven't been able to install yet)
Soundblaster Live

Games runs just fine on medium setting. Units on medium(?-80 for Hastati)

The only thing that *&*^ is the long loading time. Going to upgrade to 256MB display card this coming christmas/new year sale...

@ Grumfoss:
That 700MHz CPU looks like a bottleneck in your system to me. If your motherboard is compatible you could probably upgrade that to something 3 times as fast for VERY little money, which would give a pretty big performance boost to your whole system.

I just built a new system last month for RTW and HL2.
AthlonXP 3000+
1 Gig 400MHz memory (in dual channel mode)
200 Gig HDD
ATI X800 Pro
Its my baby and i love it.

Wish i had a x800 graphics card..

Mine is:
Athlon 1,900 xp
512 DDR RAM
Sapphire Radeon 9550 256mb
40gb Hard drive
Win XP (was forced into upgrading to XP which i was not happy with)

Runs R:TW quite well, has a bit of slowdown when there is a lot of units on screen and i zoom out.

Also playing Doom 3 at the moment, where I really see the limit of my system :disappointed:

I have just upgraded my Athlon 700 to an Athlon 2400 XP with 512 DDR ram and a a GF Ti 4200 x8 128MB graphics. That has really speeded up the game. I can now have all the graphic settings cranked up and it looks very nice
~:) And the cursor speed on the strategy map has increased which inproves gameplay no end. (It used to be a nightmare trying to get the cursor over a city or army.)

Now:

Amd Athlon XP 2800+

After a few days when my new comp arives:

Amd Athlon 64 3400+
2 X 512mb 400mhz DDR
Sapphire Radeon 9800 pro 128mb

I was going to buy Sapphire Radeon x800 pro but couldn't aford it :furious3:

Sapphire 9200SE

Could be worse :) I've even won a campaign on huge units once, although the machine was crashing about three times a day.
(and wasn't a slow campaign map cursor some kind of a bug, rather than specs problem?)

Just bought myself a new system that is:

3ghz AMD Athlon 400mhz FSB
1gb DDR Ram 400Mhz
80Gb hard drive

- unfortunatly didn't have money for a new graphics card so still using a 9550 256mb graphics card (although its not that bad for a cheap card)

Because they only look "higher end" compared to yours. Most of the people posting have low- to mid-level CPU power coupled with even lower level graphics cards, and their systems appear to be untweaked.

I play at 1600x1200x32 with all graphic settings maxed no issues whatsover, save during experimentation, I noticed very slight slowing with an insane number of units. I plan on upgrading the GPU (depending on how HL2 plays) and changing over to water-cooling at some point (hoping to push the 2.4c up to 3.4 or better).

BTW, how much $US did you pay for that GF Ti 4200???

Many seem better than my:

PIII 1Ghz

Soundblaster 5.1 Live!

To make up for it I have broadband...which I love.

I bought the motherboard, processor 2400xp, 512 DDR ram and GF Ti 4200 for £150 ( about $290 ). All were second hand, but they all work fine. ~:)

Built my own jusr recently actually. Spec is....

AMD 64 3.6Ghz processor,
1.06GB of Crucial R.A.M.,
60GB Serial ATA Western Digital HardDrive,
MSI Nforce series cant remember quite what but new motherboard,
ATI (hercules) XT8600Pro Graphics card running with PCI Express slot,
Dolby 6.1 Creative Surround sound card,
as for other stuff well cost fair bit for example monitor 19inch Iiyama.

Wouldnt advice to spend the amount i did, your always gonna lose money but runs any game, even Rome on full everything easy enough. ~

like Marcusantonius, i tried running with a low end sytem with the same results. I just bought the parts to up it to a piii 1000 with 512 k ram and a chaintech 128 mx4000 vid. I can't wait for the parts to come in from ebay so I can get it up and running. I even spent the day at a friends house and played all day, but I had to put up with the slow cursor thing because her system had a geforec mx 44o vid, which I think is only geforce 2. It seems to me that the slow cursor bit is a function of the vid card.

An MX440 is the most common graphics card according to steam so don't worry.
