I've just started playing STW, and have a problem which I haven't found the answer to in the manual or the forums.
When invading an enemy province containing an army, I opted to control the battle myself, and found my army on a very empty battlefield.

There was a castle there, but there were no enemy troops visible. I tried marching up to the castle, but there was no reaction. I also tried getting my troops to attach the castle, but again no joy.

I suspect that the next step should have been a seige, but I couldn't find a way to initiate it. I felt like I'd been left at the alter. After ages I gave up, and retreated, just to move on with the game.

Can anyone tell me what I should have done ?

Can anyone tell me what I should have done ?Hey SuicideSquad, I don't know about the original STW, but I have fought thousands of battles in STW/MI and never encountered this problem. Sounds like a one-time software glitch to me. This sort of stuff happens - very rarely, but it does. Always save you game before clicking 'end of turn', just in case.

sometimes troops are hidden into the forest,
and u have to send scouts to localize the enemy army,
but even in that case u should have been able to see the enemy
general on the mini map. But in your case m8, I would have enjoyed the bug,
pressing CTRL+T and waiting to run out of time :)

Thanks for your replies guys. Having played thru a few more similar situations, it seems that my outnumbered enemy likes to hide in a forest near the edge of the map, and then make a run for it as soon as they smell my troops. That's why I couldn't find them originally.

What a fantastic game though.
