I thought some of you might find this intresting. Just some of the things none of us ever really hear about.

Soviet Union was developing laser space battle station Skif from beginning of 80's.
Length: 37 meters
Diameter: 4.1 meter
Weight: around 80 tons
It was supposed to be launched by Energia booster (same as for Buran shuttle)

Unarmed prototype filled with scientific equipment was created around 1985 and launched 15 May 1987. It was failed to start operations and with the fall of Soviet Union project was scrapped.

I really wish that thing was moon shaped, so I could go "That's no moon, that's a space station!"

...I seem to have done it anyway, but what are you going to do, eh?

Wouldn't you love one of those, just for the cool factor? "What are you driving these, days, Rob?"
"Oh, nothing special, just a laser space battle station."

the funny thing about the majority of US Satellites with armament - yes, there are some, just not with nukes or "assassin lasers" - is that over half of them are pointed into outer space.

That makes sense. It seems likely that they would want to target hostile com sats. I believe that com sats orbit in geosync orbit, and geosync is a fairly high orbit...
