View Full Version : Percentage chance of Rebel appearance
Does anyone know what file is used to set the percentage chance of rebel appearance per province?
I was thinking of tweaking the percentages in particular provinces.
Thanks in advance.
It's a file called desc_rebel_factions.txt
The thing is it's not by region its by rebel faction and another thing is that the chance causes a associted amount of unrest in any region that rebel is in.
For instance:
rebel_type Saxones //Germans
category peasant_revolt
chance 3
description Saxones
unit barb infantry slave
unit barb infantry slave
unit barb peasant slave
unit barb naked fanatics slave
unit barbarian rebel general
his entry will cause all the provinces with Saxones to have a 15% unrest penalty.
To find out which rebel a province has look in desc_regions.txt
Tribus_Saxones
Bordesholm
germans
Saxones
232 41 55
germans, brits, timber, amber, dogs, pigs
5
3
This province has Saxones and will cause a 15% unrest penalty. I think the penalty doesn't apply to the province creator (in this case the germans) but I'd have to check that.
Hope this helps.

excuse the dead thread resuscitation but someone asked me about this recently so just tested it.
Raising the chance level for the rebel type does increase unrest in settlements with that rebel type in descr_regions.txt entry. The unrest is not generated if the occupying faction is the default faction in descr_regions.txt
the faction creator in descr_strat.txt can be different - at least in BI (I never quite worked out whether having different faction_creator and default faction is really a problem or not, I know some people blame it for CTD's but that might be RTW only which seemed fussier).
There does not seem to be any effect from the apparent sub-faction setting in descr_rebel_factions.txt, it runs quite happily with
rebel_type Britons //blahblahblah
category peasant_revolt
so I assume the part after // is just a comment stating intent, also the rebels don't seem to have any particular link defined anywhere else to the main factions unless I'm missing something...
Unfortunately the only thing I'm not seeing is any actual increase in the number of rebels generated even after increasing the chance figure, does anyone have any evidence that actually works?

Good.
I am not sure what you mean by "numbers of rebels" though. The chance refers to the chance of rebellion predicated upon the unrest, not any number of rebels - which, as you know, are predefined in the same file.
Or do you think it linked to brigands? I think not. That is separate and only modified in regions by other factors outside of the DRF file. I may be wrong...
rebel_type Britons //blahblahblah
category peasant_revolt
Yes, strange how that comment uses // instead of the ; or ¬ - but there was no need to give away the name of the new EoD II faction in your example :laugh4:
p.s. negative values are accepted too, though I think the game just reads them as 0 (?)

I was thinking of it being chance of brigand spawn in that particular region - answer is more logical but less useful....
Don't suppose you know what other factors do influence that? - vanilla map always seemed to get more in some areas than others but I'm quite clueless as to how to deliberately alter that.
And yes EoDII has quite a few blahblahblah entries at the moment :embarassed:

No, I'm not sure - there have been threads about it but I'm not sure anyone has posted any conclusive data. I've heard fertility, for example, influences brigand spawning.
