View Full Version : How Do You Get 250 Man Units?
Alright, as it said, in Custom Battle & online Battles, you can choose from 160 man units on Huge, but then there are two that are 250 man units (for Romans this is, mabye some other factions but speaking of them here).
Their names I think are Legionary First Cohort, or something like that. On my Huge unit size Campaign with the Julii, I have 160 man units already, and the Marius reforms. But in my Capital, with everything built, upgradded, and on Huge ctiy size, I still dont have the option to create the 250 man units... how do you get the ability to create these?!
If you dont belive me that there is 250 man units, goto singleplayer, custom battle, or multiplayer, choose you as the Romans, and you'll see them on the top level of the two to choose your units, they'll be near the right.
You can only get them from the Senate as a price for a completed mission.

The largest unit in the game is the Roman First Leigionary Cohort, at 242 men (plus your general if he is in that unit).
Yes, but anyway that we can personally manufacture them in our cities? Becideds this supposed Senate thing. I want many stacks of armies full of them as my ground troops!
As I understand it, the strongest Roman heavy infantry unit is the Urban Cohort, built using the Urban Barracks (requires Imperial Palace and Army Barracks to build). This is slightly stronger than the Praetorian Cohort, which requires an Imperial Palace.
Admittedly, I don't have it in front of me, but I don't think Legionary First Cohorts are listed on the Roman tech tree. I think you only get them as gifts.
If they do work like generals so much, is it possible that they gradually regenerate like general's bodyguards do (I think)?
I think there are too many "I think"s in this post. Never mind.

I've never seen the first cohort regenerate men on its own, but that's actually a really good idea! It would represent elite soldiers from other elite armies slowly coming in to refill the ranks of the awesome first cohort, kind of like them getting their big break. It would also be a fairly easy addition to implement, without inlcuding the first cohort as buildables, thereby spoiling their special nature.
Siris:
I suspect you have eagle fever! ~D You could probably mod them in, but then you really just end up with yet another legionary unit. Also, although they give the impression, they really aren't head and shoulders over the other legionary units. Here's how they stack up stats-wise, straight out of the chute.
First Legionary Cohort:
Attack 9, Missle 13, Defense 22
Morale 10, Highly Trained, Disciplined
Urban Cohort:
Attack 14, Missle 18, Defense 24
Morale 12, Highly Trained, Disciplined
And of course, other things can modify this, but you get the idea.
The only edge the First Cohorts have over the Urbans is the Eagle (& the one extra man). And several units of eagles in one army, hmmm, just doesn't feel right to me. I mean, how many first cohorts can you really have in an army of cohorts?
