Just to let all you Napoleonic fans that the release date for Cossacks 2 has been pencilled in for Jan 15th. The developers hosted a live chat about the game although it left many community members disillusioned. I can post the chat log if anyone would like to read it.
The delay was due to CDV getting Alexander out in time for the movie.

Hopefully they've addressed the gameplay problems that were present in the earlier games of the series. Those games looked great, and their engine had a lot of potential, but the gameplay was not very good. The game really needed to go in the direction of the Total War series - that is, separate the tactical combat portion from the economic/civilization portion. The game promised epic battles (and they were possible with the engine), but they never occurred, because it's too difficult to fight large battles when you're focused on building your base and pumping out soldiers. Also, the AI never built large, organized armies; it just sent small, disorganized mobs at you, like all other games in its old, broken genre. The casualty rate was far too high, making factors like tactics and morale mostly irrelevant. Field battles were pointless anyway, because fortifications were far more effective than field armies. The developers knew they wanted epic battles, but they couldn't quite pull it off because they were chained to the old Warcraft/C&C model.

Imperial Glory will probably outshine Cossacks 2, as it is based on the Total War engine

I'm pretty sure they have their own engine, but the rest I agree with with.
Which reminds me, i downloaded the Alexander demo last week, maybe it's time I tried it :-)

I've been anticipating C2 but no more with great excitement since they released the "flying carpets" style screenshots.
Thanks for the report anyway. It's been quite some time since I visited the Cossacks communities.

I'm really beinning to care very little about Coassacks 2, mostly due to the fact the release date is continuously been pushed back all the time.

Pretty true. We might be complaining about our grandchildren hanging on teleportation rooms too much when/if C2 is finally relesed. ~;)

I saw a supposedly Turk city with all those onion domes etc. and that was enough for me not to look any further. https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/images/smilies/misc/tongue.gif

Alexander sucked. The graphics were poor and after RTW I expect people to die after being hit damnit, not lose some hp.
C2 best have one hit kills and misses from ranged weapons. I don't want men losing hp. It's just silly.

I thought Alexander wanted to capture the cinematic feel of the movie, by giving units HP's and such to prolong the battle (try putting huge numbers of axemen and hypospis against each other for one dusty battle), but i have to admit the cavalry animations are more fluid, and very realistic.
