Does anyone have any idea how well a dell inspiron 1150 2.8ghz 512 mb computer with INTEL EXTREME GRAPHICS 2 64mb "video card" will work with rome total war? I just ordered a new comptuer to replace my current aging laptop with these features, but now im reading reviews that intel extreme graphics 2 SUCKS BIG TIME, and im even considering cancelling the order i have just placed.
So if anyone has any advice, please hurry up and tell me while i can still cancel this order! (by the way i was looking for a decent $1000 laptop that can play games decently well which is why i picked that particular system). Thank you.

[Will]... INTEL EXTREME GRAPHICS 2 64mb "video card" will work with rome total war?...
I tried the demo of MTW on an Intel Extreme Graphics PC, and I didn't get any textures for troops! Check the RTW readme, it may confirm if this is still the case with RTW.

I doubt it will work (if it does it will be in low graphics quality)
As its an onboard card you still have the option of buying and fitting a graphics card yourself, but this would mean openining the case yourself and probably voiding the warantee.
So you have 2 options.Cancel the order and look for a machine with a minimum 128mb vid card.Buy the machine and fit a better card (but this will void the warantee).
Sorry just saw its a laptop,in which case I wouldnt consider fitting another card.Best to cancel and find a better specced machine.
Hi there,
I tried to run MTW on a Dell with this onboard graphics system when I was between AGP cards and it would either run only at the very, very lowest settings (and then like a pig) or not at all.
I was honestly gobsmacked at the difference between the onboard and AGP cards given Intel's boasts about the Xtreme graphics setup in it's own marketing blurb - but then maybe I'm not cynical enough ~;)

Thanks alot everyone. I canceled my order and I feel like I just averted a disaster ... I placed a new order with Compaq instead of dell (system specs below) and am getting the ATI Radeon 9000 which is capable of either 64mb ore 128mb depending on how much of ure system RAM u want to share with it, and I think this comp is gonna be def alot better than that piece of crap dell.
Compaq Presario R3000T-shared series customizable Notebook PC
- Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Home Edition with SP2
- Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 3E GHz w/HT Technology
- 15.4" WXGA Widescreen (1280x800)
- ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) 9000 IGP
- 512MB DDR SDRAM (2x256MB)
- 60 GB 4200 RPM Hard Drive
- DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive
- Built in 56K Modem+10/100 LAN
- Microsoft(R) Works/Money
- 12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
Good but don't get ur hopes up too much on a damn 9000 or even 9100 IGP, they're not great but leagues ahead of Intel extreme graphics...which are extreme-ly crap

Well I currently run Rome Total War with a 2.0 ghz 256 RAM gateway with a 32MB ATI Mobility Radeon Chip (Mobility 9000 is a few generations up from this chip i believe), and the game is actually playable. So I don't think I should have any problem running the game with the Mobility 9000, maybe even I'll be able to add grass ~D .
Glad you got your problem sorted, although this is why i stick with desktops!

True but i am serious a Radeon is one thing albeit an old one but a Rage MaXX could probavly outrun Intel's extreme graphics even a TNT 2 can prolly do that
For specs on pc's check out the other topic in the entrance hall, alot of information there on how well peoples pc's handle rome and what the specification of them is.
The second laptop you ordered should run RTW just fine-I'm running Rome on a destop that's worse than the first laptop you ordered and it's mostly fine. A few framerate issues, mostly in high-polygon battles like big cities, but I'm running 'large' unit sizes mostly fine-on Intel Extreme Graphics. Urgh. The game would definately run better with a 'real' graphics card in my system, though.
yes for sure, problem is with them on motherboard graphics use up the actual systems cpaity for example the RAM, where as a graphics card connected to the mother board has its own RAM to a degree to use and effects the pc less and tends to work of its own 2 feet. All round better results, for pc stability as well as graphics.
