I had been playing a very long game as the Scipii when I started running into a cashflow problem. Every now and then the treasury would be in the red. It seemed to coincide with an impending revolt in one of my cities. I would besiege the city and then conquer it and annihilate the populace. There were three benefits: (1) sudden cash, (2) high rate of approval from the people who now lived in the city, (3) no worries of revolt in that city for a while. But this cycle seemed to get broken after a while. Revolts were not something I could depend on. So in a moment of desperation (necessity is the mother of invention, you know), I decided to create my own revolts. I would search through my cities for the ones with certain criteria. (1) They had to have a large troop deployment nearby. (2) They had to have a lower than desired approval rating (80% or below). (3) They had to be a city which hadn't had a revolt for a while. Then I would move any troops in the city to just outside the walls. Usually the revolt happened on the next turn. Then I would besiege the city, annihilate the populace, and get the needed cash. Has anyone tried this?
