I was wondering if anybody knew where I could find any copies of those beautiful prints that are the backdrops for the credits in Shogun: Total War. I don't know if they're actually works of art or if some artist working on the game emulated that kind of style. I've searched nearly everywhere and I can't find anything like those, but I'd really like to get my hands on some of that stuff.

Well, if anybody knows where I can find art like that, let me know. Thanks.

Ah, I was thinking more along the lines of when the credits are rolling and there are those really neat illustrations of battles and samurai and all that stuff. I don't know whether those are actual Japanese artworks from that time period or not, but I'd like to get my hands on them all the same.

Those are authentic illustrations - I've seen them appear earlier in the books written by the game's historical consultant Stephen R. Turnbull, for example. If you can find a version of his The Samurai - A Military History with paintings on color plates, it has many if not most of those images.

Otherwise, try http://www.shogungallery.com/ , they carry a wide variety of woodblock stuff and other Japanese prints.

ah, perfect, thanks a lot. I was thinking about getting one of those things tattooed on my back... well, like I said, it's just an idea. And anyway, i'm only 1/4 Japanese, so it might be a little, um, goofy. Besides, I don't know how much I'll like the tattoo thing.

Thanks again!

I got a tatoo when I was at sea about 15 years ago; at the time it cost $20 + I just recently paid over $1200 to get it removed. -A word to the wise: don't get one unless you are sure, boyeee.

yeah, that's kind of why i'm not so sure yet. I mean, it'd be neat and all, but i've still got to decide if I want my back to be a mural.

Eh, if I don't want a tattoo, at least I'll have something neat to look at. And if I do want a tattoo, then I'll get a gigantic one on my back and impress everybody.

The Japanese Woddblocks are works of art I can truly appreciate.

I bought some in Kyoto in October last year, 8 all up. Kuniyoshi ones..

The Japanese call them Ukiyoe, which means pictures of the floating world.

Mostly there are scenery ones and Kabukiza actors, but if you look hard enough, you can get the warrior ones. Like I said Kuniyoshi was one of those artists who specialized in warrior prints.
