I have recently watched a couple of his films after exhausting the local library's impressive catalog of Kurosawa fims. I would personally recommend "Black Rain". This is NOT the American film of the same name but a portrait of a family exposed to blast radiation from the atomic bomb at Hiroshima. No other film have I seen that deals so intimately with the Japanese people's impressions of this delicate subject more provocatively than this film.

Thanks for the info. I hope the images the book creates are as vivid as the movies' were. This movie changed my stance on nuclear weapons upon which I won't endeavor to digress.

Hell of a movie...

Makes me thirsty for water, now that you mention it.

Watch an anime film called GRAVE OF THE FIREFLIES.

Its eye-opening and heart-wrenching.
