Ok,

it's been a while since I have posted, but seeing as how there is usually some interest to discuss daimyos and other important characters, I decided to start this thread.

The idea being that each person names 5 daimyos whom they like (they don't even have to be important, but that's a plus). Give a list, reasons if you like, no reasons if you don't.
heck, if you want you can even include samurai or non-daimyo figures. (women, monks, etc...). Give a few lines about the person though if you think they are not too well known.

Hopefully, it will generate some good info for ppl and if Seal san or West san are around they can probably help spread some info.

I'll give my 5 later... I am supposed to be studying for my final right now (I have 3 more hours)...

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm,

Akechi Mitsuhide???!!!!!

I thought he was renown for his stupidity.

No offense. But I mean which man in his right mind would take such a unwise move which leads to nothing but total ahhilation of his own Akechi family? After all, he had no chance against Totoyomi and Shibata.

And I know it's always said that he was a great poet. Yeah, right, politics. Who cares about how many poems a DAIMYO and GENERAL wrote?

It's like saying: ok, I know he makes a lousy king, but hey, he can smoke pots like no-one else on-earth!

Well,

in defense of Akechi...

There are a number of facts which many ppl seem to overlook.

1. Toyotomi only found out about the assasination when he intercepted a message bound for the Mori clan informing them that Oda had been killed by Akechi (Mitsuhide).... I am sure he hoped the Mori would align themselves with him.

2. Rumors of Akechi being aligned with certain other Oda retainers.
-Hosokawa thru marriage (I believe, but I may be getting my names wrong) However, Hosokawa did nothing due to the dishonor he saw in the act.
-the Tsutsui clan appeared to favor Akechi but would do nothing until they could see his true power.
-and of course, the supposed assasination attempt of Tokugawa. Or perhaps Akechi working in league with one or more of Oda's top generals... but a lot of that is speculation.

My five... (favorites)

1. Asai Nagamasa (I love him like a brother)

2. Oda Nobunaga

3. Miyoshi Chokei

4. Takeda Shingen

5. Tokugawa Ieyasu

On Miyoshi Chokei (which you may or may not know)... He was the leader of the Miyoshi clan when they were in there "waxing" period or rise to power in the Kyoto-Osaka region. Unfortunately his power and clan was underminded by Matsunaga Hisahide. Until his death (by poison- which was proceeded by the death of 2 or 3 of his brothers (also by poison in my opinion)) the Miyoshi controlled much of eastern Shikoku and the shore of Honshu in the Osaka area and all the way to Kyoto.

I find it interesting that you would pick Oda Nobunaga as one and Akechi Mitsuhide as another, since Mitsuhide despised Nobunaga in the end, enough so to take his life.

Your either one or the other....

Akechi Mitsuhide, was not a reknowned warrior, but prefered to lead his clan to economic power. Unfortunately he was put in charge of the Toyotomi Hideyori council and so had to take command of the army against Ieyasu at Sekigahara.

Toda,

You are thinking of the wrong person mate.

Perhaps you mean, Ishida Mistunari... he's a completely different set of... problems.

That I was!

I get them mixed up all the time. Ishida was the one who fought at sekigahara, and Akechi was the one who killed Nobunaga.
