I need some help on the Historical Battle "The Siege of Sparta".
I'm playing on normal difficulty. And I just can't beat those damn spartans! I've tried several times.
Attempt 1: I assaulted head on and got quite far in to the city but they hade to many hoplites left so...
Attempt 2: I tried the same strategy but a little more structured. I didn't work... it actually worked worse then the first time.
Attempt 3: I moved to another side of the city (the opposite side from where the spartan reinforcement arrive). It worked well at first and I managed to get in to the town square but then I was stopped by a bunch of hoplites and the enemy general.
Attempt 4: I tried to rush on the other side of the city (the same side as their reinforcemnts arrive) but I was beaten by the reinforcement units that came from behind.
Attempt 5: I faced the reinforcements head on and beat them but I hade to few troops left to beat their remaining hoplites.

In every attempt their spartan hoplites have been the biggest problem, naturally. They always win in hand-to-hand combat. I charge from the rear and from the sides with my pikemen or cavalry, but the spartans win easily anyway. I charge with my elephants, but the spartans win. I fire at them with the onagers and skirmishers but they hardly take any casualties. And even if I do manage to destroy a few spartan units (takes at least 3-4 units of pikemen to destroy a single hoplite unit) they always have more left.
Obviously I have two options: take the square quickly (I can't see how that is even possible) and defend it for 3 minutes, or destroy all enemies (and that doesn't sound easy either).
Any tips?
