Archer Range

Do all archers with 'long range arrows' have the same range? I've heard some comments that cretan archers have the longest range in the game, over and above all other archer units, and would appreciate clarification on the matter.

On a side note, do you guys really employ slingers? I find their arc of fire so low that they must be put out in front, and are therefore vulnerable to a sudden calvary charge. It might be a nice change if slingers could fire over the heads of your troops, just like archers.

Correction; archers do NOT fire over the heads of your troops. They shoot friendly troops in the back just as often as slingers do

I like slingers, only the Rhodian and Balearic ones though. If they threw their stones over your troops' heads then it would do lesser damages to the enemy.

I haven't noticed Cretan archers had a better range, but I didn't look into this a long time either ~;)

Cretan archers do have a longer range (1/3) I think - and better stats - which make them exceptionally useful!

And while I've had ff casualties, I've never had them from an archer unit behind an infantry unit firing straight into them. I always line up my archers behind 6 or 8 deep phalanxes and I've never had a problem. Just leave, say, half a units width between the archers and the unit in front and they should be fine. (Until they start moving about, of course ;) )

Archers have either 120 meters or 170 meter range(long range)

Cretans are nice but check out the Gauls and Egyptians too ~;)

Archer Auxilia, Cretan Archers, Forester Warband, Pharoah's Bowmen, and Chosen Archer Warband all have a range of 170. All other foot archers havea range of 120, like stated above. Correct me if I happened to miss any, but I think that's it.

Balearic and Rhodian slingers have a range of 120. All other slingers have a range of 80.

After taking the archers with the longest range I think you need to grade them by their missile attack values which will bring Forester Warband out on top:

Forester Warband 15
Pharaoh's Bowmen 14
Chosen Archer Warband 12
Cretan Archers 11
Archer Auxilia 9

Your archers WILL shoot your infantry in the back, even with 1/2 a unit's width between IF...

a) your two units are on a hill, with your archers higher up than you infantry, and
b) if your archer's target is in front of your infantry, and thus lower still on the hill.

The archers seem to ignore the arch and shoot line-drive THROUGH your infantry to hit the nme infantry lower down on the hill.
