It does seem that the more I play, the less I like RTW. Not that the idea behind the game is bad, but there simply are too many really odd bugs that make the game almost unplayable after a while.
You may have read about my problem with vanishing armies. Now, I also have entire cities disappear on me! Well, not disappear, but all of a sudden, settlements I built up belong to an enemy faction for an unknown reason. Talk about the UI cheating!
It also seems that my armies sometimes just disappear off the campaign map. It is almost as if I now had too many things going on at once and the game can not keep track of it anymore.
Also, it seems that the game gets less and less stable the longer the campaign goes on. It now seems that I have to restart the game after almost every turn, because some of the graphics on the campaign map just disappear (turn white).
Am I the only one with these problems?

Haven't seen this myself. You might want to check activision's site for support info on video cards, etc.

The army vanishing thing happened to me once and one time the sea didn't load on the campaign map. (Just a big grey area with no ships visible where it should've been)
You seem to be getting more than your fair share of bugs. If you don't use it already, I'd recommend the 'right click on the army tab' while viewing a settlement to keep track of your armies. Hopefully some of your disappearing armis are from forgetfulness, rather than a bug.

Well, I am pretty forgetful, but I hope it is not to a point where I forget about the army I just attacked with
I am certain the disappearing city was truly mine. In one case in particular, I used that city to build up an assault army that I had intended to move 2 or three moves down the line. And then whooooop! all of a suddent another faction sits in this city with a huge army. And there wasn't even one near the town anywhere (Cyrenaica... I had armies all around in the dessert... I doubt they could have snuck by and taken the city without me noticing it...).
Oh, and another thing that happened is that I am not getting notified of sieges anymore. That's a real pain!

Cyrenacia hmm? I remember thinking it odd once when I was playing as the Greeks... One turn I suddenly noticed that Cyrene had declared for me, I thought that kind of thing only happened in Civ.
The majority of my problems acctually seem to occur in that part of the world. Kinda strange now that I think about it. But I really can't imagine that that has a real impact...

I've had the same thing happen. I assumed it was bribed from under me BUT there were no dips in sight and I didn't get a message of betrayal......... ~

It could be a revolt. I had owned Appolonia as the Brutii for quite some time. Then Mecedon attacked while I was dealing with the Greeks in Asia Minor. They took the city. Couple of turns later it was mine again. Apperantly I had a loyalist revolt and the city was turned over to me with some hefty troops. About the armies disappearing - I have had it happen to me only if I lose and I have nowhere to retreat to. And yes towards the middle of the game I stop getting nitices if I had a riot in cities. It is a pain, because riots turn into revolts and I can't afford to loose my best cities at this point of the game. Also I've noticed that I cannot build any towers or forts in the region of Tylis as a capital. Anyone has a tower in that region?
Maybe your problem is ungarrisoned cities. You do know neither human nor A.I. has to lay siege to a city with no defenders. They get it immediately.
Cyrene. the fog of war gives you a very short line of site to the north. A ship drop off could have occuered along with the ship dropoff comcealing them in the trees and that is why the city fell unexpectadly.

Yes, the game has a good number of bugs, and even more Gameplay issues that have made the game unplayable for many, but in your case:
a) There is a "disappearing army" bug, but to be sure you're suffering from it, I think you need to describe the circumstances to see if they are similar to that others have experienced. Opps, just realized you must have posted before....
b) Disappearing cities? What I think has happened is that the AI bribed the Govenor/Captain of your city, and you must have missed the Message telling you so. The AI is pretty good at accomplishing this when you have no govenor or a weak govenor.
I suggest you keep closer tabs on your Govenor's traits, as well as the Messages the come each End Turn.
c) Regarding your stability and graphic issues (turning white), sounds VERY much like a System problem NOT a Game problem. Guessing quickly, you either need to update Drivers, update ALL of them; and/or your graphics card is getting HOT after extended play.
What are you system specs?
Check your driver versions.
Check your system temperatures.
RTW isn't as demanding as Far Cry or HL2, but unless you've got a relatively up-to-date system RTW will stress it a bit.
Luck!
It could be a revolt.
No, I wouldn't think so. I didn't get a message about it. The city was also very happy (125+ and growing fast). And generally, isn't the city owned by rebels or something after a revolt? It went to the Bruti faction in my case...

No, I am sure that was not the case, because I used this settlement to build up a massiva assault army.

I am pretty sure this didn't happen in this last instance, because it was a settlement that was so central to my plan for the next few turns and I was keeping a very close eye on it. Of course, if I did not see anyone approaching and there is a bug that hides the message, then I guess that could be the case. But I am sure there was no message I missed, since i noticed it right at the beginning of the turn when all the messages are still queued up.

Pretty sure things are up to date. The rig is relatively new. Alienware. About 1 year old and was the absolute top-of-the-line when I bought it.
Oh, and I should probably mention that I am also a software developer myself, so I usually am pretty savy about how to configure my system and keep it up to date. The only thing I could think was that I had a development version of DirectX installed, but then I tried it on another machine, and I saw the same issues. (BTW: HL2, FarCry, Doom,... all run without a problem and very smooth).

One other little detail that I noticed just a few turns later: I lost that settlement just one settlement short of winning the campaign. I had already besieged another settlement and took it in the next turn, but since I lost the settlement, I was still a settlement short. A few turns later, I took yet another settlement, and that brought the campaign to an end. Interesting...
