Just picked up this new title in the Osprey Elite range. As I've read more about samurai history over the 20 years since I got into mini wargaming I confess I've become a little bemused by Turnbull's stuff over time. I blame him for the Battlefield Ninja in STW/MI http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif But this is a great little guide for wargamers. Of course, the colourful subject matter would suggest a winner from the outset but the author really has done some serious digging into the early samurai period to present new material. No longer are your Genpei armies limited to Taira=red banners; Minamoto=white banners. A serious effort also to avoid rehashing material in his earlier books for the Sengoku-jidai.

Turnbull has done 'Digging' and has 'new material'?!?!?!?!?!?
Has the temperature in Hades fallen that much?
Hmm... I guess Hiroshi, the gimp Japanese boy he keeps in his basement, has been working overtime at those Rekishi Gunzo translations.
"I'm sooo hungly, gibu me foodo Tahnbull-sama!"
"One more chapter, then you'll eat, Hiroshi. You've almost got me enough information for another book! Heh, heh, heh."

Ohhhhhh, you old CYNIC, Mr CEWest...In fact you're worse than me. But, yes, the thought did strike me that he's just ripped off someone elses stuff without giving them credit....again. Still I'm not complaining if it means my Genpei-bushi now got more priddy lil flags
