View Full Version : Help! My Generals Are Dying!!!

Okay, I'm playing MTW as the Novogrod faction. I have conquered most of Asia Greater. Now my generals are dying by assasins. I'm losing about one a turn now. The game tells me to beef up security, but how do you beef up security? I can't even see the assasins.

Help!

There are several things you can do. Make sure the provs that this is happening in have border forts and watchtowers. You can try putting a spy and an assassin in the region I think they help root out an enemy assassin. They end up working like counter-intelligence. Emmisaries and religious variant of a bishop might help as well. You can also beef up the military force that is there, I think this reduces the chance of a successful assassination attempt against your general.

Other than that eventually the assassins will fail and the enemies high valor assassin will get caught.

Yeah, or, build the KGB counter intelligence-agency (requires the relquiry and the Stalin Leader emerges event). ~D

lol.

No, but on a serious note as the first reply said you can use:

- Watchtowers
- Forts (available after watchtower)
- Spies (need Brothel i think)
- Assassins (counterspy)

Im usually not to bothered if my Zero star generals die because at the end of the day they are not essential.

Killing a 4+ star general is something only a Legendary Geisha can do with confidence. And as we all know, there are none in MTW.

Even if your general dies, hes replaced by someone with thte same stats. It is only bad if they attack right afterward for if its a orice or king. I think you type some cammand, like green general or something so they get replaced by lesss competent people.

I believe this is only the case when you get the message that your general died of old age... But if assassinated he is just gone for good...

This is a handy tool to discourage attacks from the enemy or pave your way of conquest by killing the enemy generals with 5* assassins from Syria...
Once I did it with the Sicilians and there was no HRE general with even 1*

Hi,

There is probably some 5-star assassin wandering around. Couple things that I've found to help:

- Borderforts/ watchtowers - best investment you can make in MTW.
- Keep your general in big stacks - the bigger the stack, the hard it is to assassinate him.
- Start moving your generals around the provinces - if an assassin has targetted him then you may get him when you drag the assassin across another border that has borderforts/watchtowers. (If nothing else it keeps the assassin preoccupied chasing one target.)
- Keep some emmisaries, spies and assassins handy - they aren't as effective as bf/wt, but they also catch the occasonal assassin.

Thanks for the info. I will add border forts and watchtowers.

Meanwhile, as I played last night, I did develop a kind of KGB. I placed two assassins in every territory. My, my but did the enemy assassins start to die. One after another they fell. Then I started to find out they were from, of all places, Poland and Egypt (in my game, Egypt has taken out the Byzantines -- thank you so much).

It seems from some of the messages that some territories develop better assassins. What are those territories?

Syria gives a bonus to assassins produced there. With VI you can push out some 5* assassins to start. If you aren't near Syria and want to make some assassins better target enemy clerics and diplomats or your own. I used to produce Inquisitors just to train my assassins.

Ive had a 9 star general assasinated and replaced with another 9 star. Maybe its only in regular medieval, and in VI hes replaced by someone worse.
