View Full Version : Rome Total War Mmorpg ?
Can this be done ?
1. Game like RPG style multiplayer.
a) Choose a tribe/faction, start as sargeant maybe.
b) Choose 'profession' to command (archers/cavalry etc)
2. Roam from town to town (and cities) gathering allies or getting 'mission'
from Governors (to eliminate rebels etc) using RPG style map (?)
3. More mission successfully concluded recieved more money to upgrade or
add troops.
4. Battles are fought on battle map like Single Player version.
5. After certain level maybe get promoted to captain and can 'hire/command'
other type of unit (so now command maybe sword & archer).
6. Chatroom replace diplomat type speeces where aliiances can be forged.
7. Bribe can also be included to maybe 'backstab' ally during battle with other
faction.
Well, this is a basic idea and I'm not really sure where to put this post actually. Feel free to comment or to add suggestion.

Not exactly what you're talking about, but the guys at the Strategic Command Center http://www.stratcommandcenter.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=2412"have a similar project running.
Yup, I've read it. But this is no turn base style. Totally real time. When offline you're in a city. Hmm.. that makes city siege are no no eh ? No fun then.. Har.. Har.. Har.. ~:handball:

But how would you fight? How would you go around and work with other people? Eventually the game would melt into the original. Taking orders from a Governor *cough*senate*cough*....doing their dirty work etc. I really like the idea though.

For fighting is when u meet other plaver from other faction. For same faction maybe if futher develope can get into civil war or something. Maybe just for the Romans only.

I suggest you look here, not exactly a MMORPG, but similar: Bandits and Mercenaries (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=31913)

why not just try too do a mmorpg that begins in lets say 250 bc then spans all the way too the end of the empire, under that time span let people play a characther they create just like in any other mmorpg, make the game dependent on the players for the economy of the world. let players be the leaders of the nations, not npcs, just soo that history woulnd´t repeat itself. first let players only play romans, then in patches make soo players can be gauls, iberians or greeks.then and if a nation starts a war then players could be enlisted in the army of the nation and then fight other players in meele combat on battlefields where players direct the troops and outcome. something like that i had in my mind
That is basically what I had in mind, only that you can choose any faction/tribe whatever you want. Instead of NPCs giving 'missions' there might be gamemaster giving orders. At first start with only one unit. You start with captain then moves further on according to experience.
Battles still play in battlemap.
Why not do it like a proper MMORPG and start out as a peasant, killing rats? Then, when you advance to Civic Guard, you can kill bunnies. Early legionary should require at least 1000 hours of gameplay.
L33t players can aspire to Urban Legionary status after devoting their lives to the game and the donation of their pancreas. Only after 200+ quests and unlocking several holochrons should you be allowed to have a horse.
I mean, if you're not going to break peoples' will to live by giving them an endless level treadmill, well, what's the point?

Then better play the real MMORPG.. har har har....
