That's not entirely true.

Having lived a mentally promiscuous youth, I can attest to the glories of multi-day parties, astrological acid trips, live concerts, lazing about, and the endless, joyful, and often destructive quest for knowledge of new things. It really was great.

But there are benefits to getting older, the best, perhaps, being appreciation. There are many things you are simply not equipped to appreciate at 18 that blossom in great delight when you are a bit older. You still have a lot of fun, it's simply different fun. And your level of individuality and self-responsibility grow as well. You become... more you. And it's nice to be able to talk to someone you've known for twenty five years and still trust completely.

And of course there are the women. :kiss2: :kiss2: :kiss2: :kiss2: :kiss2: When I was 24 I had a 35 year old girlfriend. When I was 36 I had a 19 year old girlfriend. Now I'm 41 and I have a 35 year old girlfriend again. It's great!

And when an 18 year old kid walks into our log yard asking for work, believe me, he's looking at all the guys in their 30s and 40s wondering if he'll be able to keep up. You get older, you get tougher. Trust me, it ain't so bad. ~;)

"Having lived a mentally promiscuous youth, I can attest to the glories of multi-day parties, astrological acid trips, live concerts, lazing about, and the endless, joyful, and often destructive quest for knowledge of new things. It really was great."

Well things always seem better when you look back at them. But if you had to relive them you'de realize that they are not so great. Plus i hardely think acid trips are good.

"But there are benefits to getting older, the best, perhaps, being appreciation. There are many things you are simply not equipped to appreciate at 18 that blossom in great delight when you are a bit older. You still have a lot of fun, it's simply different fun. And your level of individuality and self-responsibility grow as well. You become... more you. "

What are you not equiped with? I am very mature and therefore "appreciative". Getting older in age doesn't mean you get more mature. I've seen 80 year olds who still act and talk like 15 year olds about women.

"And it's nice to be able to talk to someone you've known for twenty five years and still trust completely."

You can never trust anyone completely.

"And of course there are the women. When I was 24 I had a 35 year old girlfriend. When I was 36 I had a 19 year old girlfriend. Now I'm 41 and I have a 35 year old girlfriend again. It's great!"

Well I am very different. I only want one girl that I love and then im getting married. I guess I just have very different views from you.

On the first part, I am delighted to say you are completely wrong. I know several people I would not only trust with my life, but with the lives of my family. And they would trust me with theirs. That's another good thing that with time and age.

For the second part, if you have the intestinal fortitude to pull that off, all the power to you brother. ~

intestinal fortitude

Not a Mick Foley fan are you Beirut? or just a coincidence??

As far as the never trusting someone, i disagree whole heartedly, i have friends id tell anything too and would trust with my life. A real friend can be even closer than any family you have because you chose your friends but you cant pick your family. If you dont have that BP then you are missing out on a lot in life. admittedly you risk getting stung but the pros far out wey the cons.

If you live your life by that, you must be a very unfullfilled person. Total and complete trust is one of the most important parts of a relationship with anyone, be it friend or family.

I hope so. I'm looking hard to find the perfect person. I'm going to college next year. I hope i have some great luck.

About the trust thing, I actually trust some people but what i really meant was you cannot trust people to be who you want them to be. People change with time.

In experience ive learnt i can trust certain people with certain things but theres other areas they cant be trusted. So theres no-one i completely trust and it doesn't leave me unfullfilled, just wary.

I also read the Economist, but I've sort of given up on the backroom. Everybody seems pretty well entrenched in their partisanship; not a whole lot of what anybody could call "dialogue" with a straight face.

I'm 25.

Plus 16; 17 in a few days.

Cool thing is, I don't look (so I am told) or feel to be as old as I am. Youth is a state of mind anyway. I know teenagers who are much more venerable than I am.

Only age thing that's been on my nerves of late are the increasing strands of gray in my hair. There was a time when I was "they guy with the cool long hair" to all the ladies on the job and in the 'hood. But that was a while ago. Lately I've been keeping it fairly short, and today I had a tizzy fit, took my beard trimmer and SHAVED IT ALL OFF!! Now I look like a cross between the Black Flag guy with his squarish glasses and an Asian monk (or cancer victim). I like it, it's a nice change, and reduces primping time by 50%. Now my e-mail monicker fits me (funkymonk).

Tis a bit cold tho ... need to find me a cool hat for the winter now.

Getting old has it's ups and downs. I wouldn't mind 'being' bald, but getting there sucks (with little wispy tufts here and there). I don't mind grey at all, but I don't have too much of it yet.

The only thing I really dislike about my age is that I'm now starting to experience the law of diminishing returns in exercising at the gym. I work out more now than I ever did, and while I'm actually at higher maximums then I was when I played rugby in college, I just can't seem to get stuff to tone up, and the belly is just too proud to retreat!

I miss the comradery of STW, over MTW - and the advent of RTW has pretty much killed the continuance of maintaining old rivalries and friendships. Clans worth a hoot are dying. In STW we all respected one another - maybe it was the attitude of the game - honor first. Or, maybe it was a matter of earning respect - and that there were those willing to drop their knowledge (some of it) on newbs. Or, maybe we always see the good old days as being the best. For me, STW days were great days. Win or lose, we all remained friends. Some of us still do.
