What are the best units to take the place of peasants as garrisons. My cities are getting too big for 80 man units. In my current game, I am placing the 120 man Levy Pikes in (Selucid).

While playing Romans it was the 120 man Barbarian Warband, and the best as Egypt it was 120 man bowmen units. I assume the best you can get as Pontus/Parthia is the 120 man eastern infantry.
How about for Briton, Gemania, Dacia, Gaul, Macedonia, Carthage and Numidia and all the others?

I just use town guard, and if things get out of hand, mass mercs.

You could also try the 'give city to far away player and wait for revolt/exterminate population', which someone outlined(again) on the front page (atm).

I also use town watch when available; but only if the area is secured. I mean my bordering cities have regular troops as garrison.

I never use peasants for a garrison, they are just too crappy. They barely qualify for duty as meat shields. For Romans I use town watch (8 units) mostly at the imperial level I use the 8 of town watch plus 4 units of urban cohorts. For the greek cities militia hoplites. For Macedon/Seleucid 4 units militia hoplites, 4 units levy pike men, 4 units archers. Eastern factions 4 units of archers plus eastern meat shield,,err,, infantry. Egypt archers and nubian spearmen. Carthage town watch and iberian infantry.
