I was just contacted by email SUPPOSEDLY by someone working at ICM - the company that is doing the script revisions on the last samurai- he offered to anonymously send a copy of the script to F.Seal and I to take a look at, and according to him to "pick apart the interesting historical problems". Don't know if this guy is for real or not, but it would be interesting to get a look at it.

Oddly enough, I'm looking forward to this. I don't expect historical details to be correct, but from what I've read on it and from an apparent script review, it's got the right feel to the period.

My only complaint is that apparently Cruise' character gets perhaps too involved in the whole samurai thing...adopting Bushido and learning kenjutsu. It would've been better had he remained an outsider to it rather than become too integrated. I suppose it won't be too bad if he picks up the philosophy and such and uses his katana like a 'grunt' level samurai (after all, he's ex-military to begin with and you can learn how to effectively kill people with a sword in little time...it just takes years to perfect)...I just don't want him suddenly turning into a Zatoichi or Sanjuro overnight.

After all, many of the samurai during the Meiji period disliked the foreign influences that were sweeping their country and we very traditional minded. Readily adopting a gaijin into their ranks would almost seem wrong....especially considering that, over a hundred years later in a much smaller world it's still nearly impossible for a foreigner to intergrate fully.
