Hi,
I have sad experience Romans being always beaten be their neighbours regardless of the era. Despite my efforts to support them. What's your experience with this?

Hmmm... let me think....

Well it just depends on the game and what happened. I mean every games are different at less the ones I played. The Byzantines if the AI is willing can decimate their enemies, like the one time I was the English, there was 3 superpowers: the english (me) in the west, the byz in the south, and the rus in the northeast. The byz won by the way... Other times they just sit there as if the money and luxury was weighing them down or they retreat to Rhodes and let the Turks conquer their lands and enjoy the easy living. It embarrasses me when they do this since their my favorite faction. :embarassed: :embarassed: :embarassed:

Yep, I agree. At least I try to make an uprising, sending spies to their original provinces. And of course, assassins :) I like them too, they are the most favourite faction, aren't they?

Yes they are, whats better than a 1000+ year old civilization still able to duke it out with newer civs. ~D

Its just random, sometimes the AI conquers lots with the byzantines sometimes they just get conquered right away.

They are the best for me personally but in a way there defeat is historically accurate.

In my current English game, Byzantine whooped Muslim ass and has conquered massive amounts of territory.

To compensate, I've begun a war of excommunicated fury, taking German and Italian lands.

The Byzantines in my campaigns seem to either get wiped out quickly or become a super power. Them and France seem to be all or nothing nations in most of my games, either they make it big or don't make it at all.

One thing you could do is to mod the game to make things a little easier for the Byzantines. I removed the land link between Constantinople and Asia Minor, so if the Turks want to attack Constantinople they must choose between a seabourne invasion and going around the Black Sea.
