In M:TW, select a stack and press 'm' to merge it.
Welcome to the org Prophet ~
Click on an army and then left click on a unit but hold it. Move your mouse so the cursor is over the unit you want to merge with. Then release it. The unit should now be merged up to the maximum allowed. Sometimes this does not work for me and I just reverse it so I merge the 2nd unit into the 1st.

do u have to be in a certain mode...im playing campaign and it doesn't worK?
do u have to have army in city out? ...be in batlle?? or what??
You can't merge units to make more than it started with. eg. you cant' merge 1 unit of 50 hastarli and 1 unit of 40 to make 1 unit of 90, you will make 1 unit of 80 and 1 unit of 10
how do i start with 80 units??? do i unlock it or something...im playing in campaing currently under brutii... 40 seems small fer a unit size

It depends on the unit size you are playing the game with. You can set this in the "options" menu I think

Its under advanced video options: unit size. IIRC Large size will get you 80 man hastati. If it slows your frame rate down just switch all the video options during battle to the lowest setting.
