Hello,

I'm a new user here and I bought RTW two days ago. I was a big fan of MTW but I never found this community then.

I like the campaign game most and after playing the prologue I started as Brutii with the difficulty hard since MTW was way to easy with the expert settings. But I found the gam e a bit hard and I started with Scipii at Medium instead.

Now I have a few questions and the first and most important one is about in what way it's best to build towns, what's generating the biggest income and growth? How can I keep my people happy when the city grows alot? What's Squalor and how can I prevent it?

I also wonder wich are the most important parts of an army, how many cavalry, infantry and ranged troops should you have in each big army? What kind of units should you have in a small troop?

Another thing that is quite strange is that in the first years of the game I gain a lot of new family members but then nothing happens, some generals are over 40 years old and don't even have a wife. How can I get more family members?

I also wonder wich god I should put my trust in as a Scipii?

Welcome to the fora.

For a start I suggest you read Frogbeastegg's guide, it will help you a lot for a certainty.

Playing as a Roman faction I always focus on infantry, supported by a strong cavalry. Some players prefer using a lot of archers, it ruins the fun (and the challenge) in my opinion.

Don't panick, your house will not die out ~;) If the number of your family members reach a critical level you will be offered some "sons" (i.e adoption).

I also wonder wich god I should put my trust in as a Scipii?

Each god has its use, I suggest you have a look at the temple guid (Forum index).

A good way to start is to look at Frogbeastegg's guide:
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=38382
It has a lot of good info, and near the bottom are the temple characteristics.

Concerning new family members, I think there is still some debate about family growth. A lot of people think the family grows as necessary (if you lose a lot of members, they get replaced pretty quickly). Aside from childbirth, there are 2 ways of gaining family members:
1. Bribing other faction family members.
2. Use a stack of troops without a family member to win a lot of battles. The "Captain" gets adopted once he gains some stars.
