Give it a shot: guess where US states belong on the map. Itty-bitty New England states are tough to position.

Thought it might help non-us readers get a sense of proportion. :)

47 out of 50 states correct

My score was 78% and I had avg error of 206 Miles. Not bad for a Euro eh? :D

Interesting. But it's a bit touchy.

I got 39 out of 50. I should have had four or five more but the "game" decided that really damn close didn't count. I figure if I'm off by fifty miles on a whole state that should be good enough.

Anyway, it's a very cool puzzle and very informative. I'd like to see how y'all Americans would do with Canada's 10 provinces and three territories.

32 out of 50...

not bad for an european.

Cool game.

43 perfect out of 50.

86% Score, Average Error 14 miles

Its the inland southern states and midwestern that screws up, as you have to be really close when you place the states.

dessa14
12-29-2004, 04:07
north dakota is easy, its states like colorado that are hard, when you have no other states in the area.
north dakota has a nice shaped northern border which you can line up.
thanks,
dessa

Damn it, only 84%. I hate it when it starts me off with something like Colorado and I get 4/5s of the state in the right part but it still considers it wrong. :furious3:

Hetman_Koronny

80%, Avg error 52 miles. Me likes puzzle ~;p

EDIT: Hey, I've just done Euro geography lvl 5 Expert (no outlines). Score 86% ~ Who can beat that? :knight:

JAG
12-29-2004, 10:11
Hetman think I had something very smilar - it was high eighties - but most of my misses were the damn small ones like Monaco and Vatican City, they insisted on putting in. So hard to remember EXACTLY where they are to go.

Hetman_Koronny
12-29-2004, 10:42
Yes, out of the tiny ones I only got Angorra and Vatican right. Others I missed badly. I must also admit I had very little idea where to put Liechtenstein :embarassed:
~;)

EDIT: and what the heck was that abbrievated country?? ~

dessa14
12-29-2004, 11:21

You're not meant to look at an atlas while you do it... ~;)

dessa14
12-29-2004, 11:59
i didn't do it with an atlas.
im just that good at geography, but that doesn't mean i don't hate it.
thanks,

US
84% 42 of 50
Avg error 82 miles

Europe
FROYM = Former Republic of Macedonia

Two errors Moldavia and Hungary (sloppy putting on that one, thought Hungary was bigger, to much MTW ~;) ), all the tiny ones right though ~D

Asia
2 errors on those stans, but I was lucky with the map.

The other continents are embarrasing on that level. :embarassed:
Africa 55%.
74 on the second attemt.
South America 58%.
Had 96% on the second attemt though so all I was needing was a refreshment.

dessa14
12-29-2004, 13:58
i made 5 mistakes with asia and only 2 mistakes with south america

ShadesPanther

84% Avg. Error 84 miles 437 seconds

not bad but I got hardly any of the Eastern states right (I got all the Western because I have been to almost all of them except the really far north ones ~;) )

Sasaki Kojiro

I started it, but the first two were Utah and Tennessee...no way to place those without reference. It needs to make the states appear an a non-random order.

BDC
12-29-2004, 18:50
74%, 177 mile average mistake. But I don't know any really except the big ones, so I only got quite a good score later on because it was like a jig saw.

I got an A* at Geography at GCSE too. Useless subject.

Louis VI the Fat

92%, 17 miles average error.

After starting off with one of those rectangular states, which I missed by a few hundred miles, the rest were easy.

Nice quizzes, thanks for the link! ~

... I got an A* at Geography at GCSE too. Useless subject.

I've found what I learned in Physical Geography to be very, very useful in my backpacking explorations of deep wilderness areas. Understanding the basics of weather and clouds, phenomena like orographic lift, tidal patterns, soil, rock, tectonic activity etc. can be helpful if things get dicey. Combined with a course in Natural History, it makes for quite an enhanced outdoor experience, and a heightened level of personal safety in the face of a natural tantrum (minor mone, anyway ...).

I got 66% Ave Error of 331 Miles and I did it in 579 seconds!!

Oh man i know this is a rez but I love geog so there we go.

92% but it should be higher since I missed Alaska by accident. I let go of the mouse prematurily, lol. Not bad for a European.

I'll try the other continents, though im sure ill ace them.

You don't remember that the Vatican is in rome?

Byzantine Prince

Europe level 8, I got 95ish percent. I don't exactly remember.

Africa level 8, I got 91%. I messed up Gambia. For a first question it was pretty hard.

Byzantine Prince
01-12-2005, 23:48
Oh man I suck at asia. 85% on level 8.

Big_John
01-13-2005, 04:58
cool game. 49/50 (98%), avg err: 2 mi, 182 secs on my first try. time actually went up and the second try, with 98% again. but i got 50/50 on the third try at 172 secs.

it helps when you've lived all over the country. also, if you get a lot of coastal states at first, that helps a lot too.

Byzantine Prince
01-13-2005, 05:11
The maps are also somewhat inaccurate. Look at Sweden, lol.

South America 95% on level 8. I keep missing the target for central countries.

I know an even more chalenging game like this. I sometimes play it on Encarta Encyclopedia. It asks to locate cities as well countries. Can you imagine how hard that can get in Central Asian Republics?

Big_John
01-13-2005, 06:07
played these on lvl 8:
got 1060 on south america (easiest one by far, imo) ~
got 905 on europe :book:
got 860 on asia :help:
got 640 on afirca :stars:

thank god that's over with, never remind me of this webste again..
