We haven't had a "Where are you from?" poll for awhile, so I thought we'd start big first.

I don't expect many entries from Antarctica :)

I'm an Oriental, though admittedly my posting times are rather peculiar for one (my work sometimes requires me to keep odd hours).
Now KukriKhan mentioned that "We haven't had a "Where are you from?" poll for awhile". Therefore I gather that we might have had one or more previous similar polls. I tried a brief search but couldn't find it on the forums. Would be nice to have it for comparison of the distribution before and after R:TW (just for the record). ~:)

I live in Norway too. My, we're numerous here. I'll bet most of those voting Europe are Scandinavians.

And Krusader, where are these Vikings you speak of? If you take a peek out your window, you'll see nothing but spoiled brats lounging about while talking on their cellphone non-stop and listening to lame popular music.

Then again, perhaps this is the lesser evil. :P

Latvia or Estonia, as for the town...Tallinn or Riga?

I always mix up those two countries, set me straight here. Btw. I'm reading a book just now on the baltic crusades, exciting stuff, especially the complex power struggles between the Teutonic Order, the Swordbrethren, the Church and secular powers such as Denmark, with the ever present threat of the native peoples rebelling.

Ar7

Well Reval is Tallinn. As for Livonia, it consisted of the modern Estonia and a big part of modern Latvia, but it was Estonia mostly.

You're half wrong.

Europeans are generally taught that there are six continents: Africa, America, Antarctica, Asia, Australia, and Europe.

Americans, on the other hand, are generally taught that there are seven continents: Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Asia, Australia, and Europe.

Given the size of the combined North and South Americans continents, combined with the wide cultural differences between the two, I would tend to agree that North and South America are in fact two seperate continents.

BTW, Goofball, what differences the continents are not its cultural differences or its size, but their tectonic origin and relative movements with respect to one another.

BTW, Goofball, what differences the continents are not its cultural differences or its size, but their tectonic origin and relative movements with respect to one another. You are correct if you are referring to the geological scientific community's use of the word "continent." Which is why said community uses only six continents: Africa, Antarctica, Australia, Eurasia, North America, and South America.

Historically, however, the general populace has generally divided the world up into continents based upon such things as culture and size. As I am part of the general populace, and not the geological scientific community, I choose to use this also correct method.

I say tomayto, you say tomahto...

A matter of taste. I prefer the geologic version. And besides, where starts South America? When the USA ends? Thats not even central america there, but the mexicans are much more like the bolivians or uruguayans than north americans in the sense of culture, etc.

And as of size, Asia is much bigger, but noone tried to split it yet.Altho you never know, maybe we will get american Asia in another Bush administration.

Nevermind. Dont really want to get int a political debate, just cheap sarcasm. ~;)

Well if you prefer the geoligical version, then you would agree with me that North and South America are two seperate continents.

Mexico, btw, is considered part of North America, and everything south of Mexico is considered South America. The term Central America is not used to describe a continent, but to describe a region.

USA! [That is to say, I'm a resident of the continent sometimes referred to as "America" and sometimes referred to as "North America." I propose that the United States be its own continent, separating North and South Americas. And if you say, "No, America is too small for its own continent," I will reply, "But we have more nuclear weapons." ~D *]

Didn't know there were so many Europeans here. :hide:

Well if you prefer the geoligical version, then you would agree with me that North and South America are two seperate continents.

Nope. That big hole that usually goes in between those tectonic continents goes along the western mexican coast right thru S.Francisco and separates the californian peninsula from the resto of the continent (well, part of it). Thats why the area is so generous in terms of earthquakes.

There is no physical separation between north and south america, except the Panama channel, but thats a different matter altogether.

Man, the things I will argue about when I'm bored...

Haha...well, the Vatican isn't really that big. I'll bet there are several wealthy families in both America and Europe who possess more land than the Vatican. Also, if you count in the hospitability of the vast, Canadian wilderness...no, I don't think so.

Sure some people have more land but that wasn't what I meant. What I said was there is enough room in the coutry for every single person to have his own country. Maybe it's a little bigger then the Vatican. That's still like the size of a village. Sure Canada is a little wild but that's because most of the north is still underdeveloped. You just wait 50 years, Canada will be the best nation on Earth. Global warming is on our side too ~;) .

As for Norway, i think it's a lot more expensive to live there then in Canada. Also Canada has way more economic growth then Norway. The amount of ooportunity here is boundless. My province only has 4% unemplyment rate. I think it would be even lower if didn't have bums. Otherwise it would be like 1%, and that's just because need to go to school.

Yes, several good points there. Especially about economic growth, starting your own company over here is quite difficult, not only because you get taxed to death when you start making movey, but also because there are far less consumers than in f.ex. Canada.

As for bums, to me it seems like their number increases for each day passing by..."you have some small change for food?"

My province only has 4% unemplyment rate. I think it would be even lower if didn't have bums. Otherwise it would be like 1%, and that's just because need to go to school.
Know what you mean. I've got a bum myself. Sitting here on my old Yurpean bum right now, actually. Had it for years. Still got a job, though, but then again people have sometimes said it's a "clever" or "smart" bum. Never seen it doing anything particularly impressive myself, but then again I've never seen my fingers fing either.

Sweden, Europe

Hmmm Americans telling they got nukes don't make USA the biggest terrorist country on our planet? I wonder who the real terrorists are...

USA the best place to live in? Naw, UN reportet that USA is on the 8th place on the best country to live in. Norway is on the first place and Australia, Canada and Sweden splitting the second place.

Norway i can almost understand why its nr1 but mexico should be sharing that spot, sweden at number 2 is exagerating... only reason i could think of people liking it because its as neutral as it gets. living here i rate it between nr 15 and 30. only plus is the women. USA is much nicer but not when it comes to politics

Okay, you gotta explain this one to me. Why should Mexico, of all countries, be sharing the 1st place with Norway?

I've never thought of Mexico as even remotely comparable in living standards to either the US or Sweden. Of course, I've never been there, and might have gotten the wrong impression.

So which is it? More people from 'Europe' have bad r:tw games and more time to waste;

OR: there is just more dementia amoung Europeans, causing them to post more often?

(note: while I may live in the 'US of Empire' , doesn't mean I agree with it, eh?)

"I've never thought of Mexico as even remotely comparable in living standards to either the US or Sweden."

Me either: Sweden has 'IMMENSLY' higher levels of living. Not only is thier government more or less sane, but they take care to keep it so.

Not something one can say for either the USA or Mexico, lol!

i wasnt thinkin about living standards when i wrote mexico even though thats what UN did, i think about the climate, culture, landscape, historie, food, women.
you guys are right about about mexico not near 1st place but if we would say traveling places its close(probably needed sleep when i wrote the last post).

but seriously, sweden??. the taxes robbs you of your wealth and the stupid taxes where you have to pay like 3 dollars to get in and out of the city((by car that is, think they have it in london too)just to add another stone in the already full hands of tax payers) even if polls showed that people didnt want it. lots of swedes hate USA, still sweden adopts american culture like theres no tomorrow. its almost as divided here as in the US when it comes to wealth, we have richy rich's clubbing for 1grand every weekend!
dont wanna go on forever(i could), making it short sweden's like living in the US but without guns in every household, without a nice climate, landscape blablabla... doesnt deserve 2nd, canada and australia deserves it

I'm from "America". To be more exact, Appleton, Wisconsin (the Dairy State). Its a small valley community near Green Bay, home of the NFL Packer football team. To a European though, I usually get the best results by saying I am near "Chicago". (Really 200 miles north of it). At Octoberfest I would get gangster imitations with machine guns.

Haarlem is the place to stay, train to city only about 10 mins on a bad day.

Norway..... on a viking expedition, offered my service to the king as the old icelandic viking heroes tended to do when they were bored.

Guess I have to go on some more viking expeditions, maybe abroad. Icelanders have a tough choice of continents as half of it belongs to america and half to europe, split right through the middle ~

... And another vote for Holland!

I guess that, besides the bigger population, the people in Europe have more free time, more people with a respective income (lefties, ~:) ), and generally a higher education (especially in the east... Did you know that the people in Mongolia are among the best educated of the world??) than we might expect from the US, although Canada saves them a little; resulting in a larger percentage of Europeans in the community than the amount of copies sold.

Pure speculation of course, it might just be that all the Americans are at totalwarcenter or something ~D.

To be quite honest, I do not see the point of threads such as these. What's the point of having these threads when we have the Location portion of profiles (which are promonently displayed on each post).
And in case people are too lazy to look it up, I'm in the country where religion, politics, and NASCAR are one and the same.
I wish I lived in Norway :(

Pretty much with you on that kiwitt, but a poll has ... 20 "slots" (I think?) so it can'nt be exhaustive ... still, a shame ~:)

BTW can I ask you something? is "kiwi" a derogative term? ~

With 6 continents and An Island Nation would give 7 poll options.

No, Kiwi is quite a friendly term and is used as often as "New Zealander"

Yes, I am from the US. I do consider myself a citizen of the world. I have done some genology and I have come to find out that I was greek before Greece, roman before rome, hun before the Huns, Viking before and during the Viking perios, anglo-saxon/norman before they were anglo-saxon/norman, scot before scottish, english before England and most of all american before america was even birthed. With that kind of heritage (which most of the world shares) how can I not think of myself as a citizen of the world. I have visited a lot of those countries. ~:)
