View Full Version : CDs that aren't

I HATE digital rights protection.

Having just got used to the idea that I can use my CD drive as a CD player, which is handy when I am working, it now seems the music industry is releasing discs that are not to the internationally agreed CD standard, to make sure they won't play in CD drives.

Now, I don't want to rip off the tracks. I don't know how, for a start, never downloaded a track in my life, don't have an iPod etc. What I want is to listen to the music I HAVE PAID FOR on the device of my choice. Which means, in my office, a CD drive.

Apparently some of them don't work in car stereos either.

Please please, lets boycott this. If its not a real CD I don't buy it, I have decided. Its our only chance to get the moneygrubbing record companies hands off our nuts before they really put the squeeze on.

(Oh, and don't bootleg tracks either.)

all my skynyrd cds work fine, so do my AC/DC and Queen and Eagles and America and Dean Martin and Pink Floyd and Led Zepplin cds work too.

It is stupid I must say.

Got to admit, I do rip the tracks off my CD's. What do I do with them? I have them in a music folder on my computer so that I can listen to my CD's without having to bring down my CD player or constantly inserting a new CD. I also put them on my mp3 player. Personally, I paid my 15 pounds for my CD and I think I should be allowed to rip the songs onto my computer for my PERSONAL use, be it for me to listen to on my PC or on my mp3 Player, I am not distributing these tracks to anyone else.

When I also find that I can't even listen to my albums on my PC I become even more agitated. The music business is killing itself off by caring so much about its money, the more they look like they only care bout our wallets the more we take the "illegal" routes.

is kazaa lite a less esoteric way to get back at the music industry than heresy?

i'm all about the emule.

you know what really peeves me off. i like the new k-OS album which ironically is called "Joyful Rebellion"

when this album is advertised, the front cover of the album is blank except for the album title in the middle

yet if you go into the store to try and buy the album, the album cover does not look like that.

no. instead there is this big huge warning text printed directly onto the album cover (ie: it's not a sticker and hence can not be removed) that says: "This CD has copy protection that may stop it from working in some players"

what i want to know is why i can't buy that album and have the album cover look exactly like the album cover on the commercial. except on the commercial they actually deliberately "air-brushed off" that warning!!!

i was totally disgusted when i saw that album in the record store.

so much for "Rebellion" --- "rebels" have caused that album's artwork to be bastardized on every copy!

How much has the music industry hurt themselves? The trick with economics is to find the medium where the price gets you the most consumers along with max profit. The secret's been out forever that in mass production CD's are only a penny a piece in mass production. Where cassettes cost money no matter how many are produced. But when CD's came out instead of passing on the profit to the consumer they jacked up the price. Not only that they have been incresing the price on CD's trying to get there profit even higher. Now that there is a decrease in sales, they jack up the rice even higher.

So what do consumers do that do'nt wanna pay 23 bucks (U.S.) for a CD, they download it. Now that it is so common knowledge that music is for free, no matter what the music industry does now wo'nt help them. Greed gets you nowhere unless it is today you are in need.

The music industry was laughing over and over yay, yay more profits ...... well hey lets jack up that price even more. Bam along comes the internet.

And what's with Napster.................... recently I have seen tons of advertisements for them for downloaing music. My guess is napster pays a small fee for files downloaded while the consumer pays them for using thier service.

Cry cry all you want as you were the ones laughing when CD's were first inrtroduced.

As far as making CD's incompatable for ripping............... there are tons of hackers to make it compatible.

Of course noone attacks the idea of swapping internet files for the right reason and mislabels.

Porn companies label there files with inapropriate names and pediaphiles can take advantage of this by actually labeling what they have as it is and due to the overwhelming amount of mislabeled files it will go through.

OK so I am bad about free porn...... but nothing like watching a video that is a third of the way downloaded and seeing a non adult video. Sure they put this money to sue a company that they believe is destroying there profits but wo'nt attack it because of poor morals..... not that they support it. Well reduced profits wo'nt hurt anyone in the long term but in some of these files obviously there are people being hurt in the long term. Well until fileshaeing stops providing material that effects minors, screw the music industry not the kids.

DL music is theft. That is sure.

And the record companies were just begging people to steal music the way they have treated them. That is also sure.

Two wrongs don't make a right, but what is very sure is I am having a blast watching the record and movie moguls go nuts over lost revenues due to DL music and movies.

Both fundamentally less effective than what I use...Bittorent.meh, both handle torrents in their own right.. i'm happy with my mule. plus it's a much better name (although edonkey is the best name, but it's quite inferior to the mule).

DL music is theft. That is sure.

actually it's no more of theft than the should-be-illegal "levies" that the RIAA puts on all blank media, even media that will NEVER have music on it!

in fact, due to these so-called "levies", a Canadian judge has ruled that downloading music in Canada is not theft, and perfectly legal! ~D

Same here. It's nice and convenient, because then i can just listen to it for hours on end, without continually switching CD's.

Nah I'm happy with Kazaa. Bittorrent confused me at first then Suprnova went down so I just went back to Kazaa.
