I was looking for some of the Japanese titles such as Heaven and Earth, Seven Samurais, Samurai (1-3), Throne of Blood, Ran,... I couldn't find any available Heaven and Earth copy. I found two Heaven and Earth results but I don't know if they are for the same movies. Heaven and Earth (1990) and Heaven & Earth (1992).

I put some of the links below:

Go here for more info on Japanese movies titles http://www.geocities.com/Tokyo/8353/movies.html

Some of my search for Heaven and Earth movie: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/6302390656/qid=1017887464/sr=1-8/ ref=sr_1_8/002-4181356-1617625 (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/6302390656/qid=1017887464/sr=1-8/ref=sr_1_8/002-4181356-1617625)

Had trouble too finding this through normal channels. But was able to pick this up on Ebay without much trouble for about $US 60. If you can Ebay from Perth you are in luck.

The 1992 one is the Oliver Stone on Vietnam though. 1990 one is the one you want.

Beautiful film.

Favorite scene: Women naginata cav charge - I could put a mural of that on my wall.

Very interesting.. much more of a documentary with stunning visuals than what we Americans would think of as a "movie".. lacks the epic storylines of such hits as Seven Samurai and Ran.. but heck, I like it, I like it alot.

I of course rented the subtitled version cuz I love to hear their funny JapanSpeak. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif

Unfortunately when I watched it I was too young to appreciate it. Have not got to see it since but would love to own it without having to pay a fortune in Canadian dollars.

Managed to get a copy of Seven Samurai on VHS. My friend bought it in Quebec but intends to buy it on DVD so I am trading him a Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (Dub), Saving Private Ryan, and Apocalypse Now for his Seven Samurai.

I win out on the deal because I already have Apocalypse Now Redux, Saving Private Ryan Special Edition, and the subtitled Crouching Tiger Hiddem Dragon, the others were just extra's I had bought before the new editions came out.

I saw this movie on TMC only a month or so ago. Great battle scenes, and entertaining story, two thumbs up.

If by epic you mean:
-couple of hundred persons with HUGE Yaris charging one another while the cavalry circle around drawing some units away.
-How to use heavily armored gun units.
-Hatamoto of Shingen coming to aid its fallen Daymio.
...then yes! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

saw H&E when I was about 20, then finally tracked it down five years later and it wasn't as hot as I seemed to remember.
I'll take Kurosawa over it anytime.

Here's another one: "in translation, the only thing that is lost, is the essential"

The translation you mentionned is word for word, I tried to capture the fact that those canons will SAY something to you...
