This may have been done before, but here goes. The Band thread got me thinking what was the best rock song ever.

So come on people do tell, in you opinion what is the best rock song ever, of course in your own opinion.

I'm going with Stairway to Heaven, I never get tired of song. The flute is addicting. So now whats your opinion?

Zeppelin yes, Stairway no. Heartbreaker by LZ is the best rock song ever in my opinion.

Stairway to Heaven sucks, i don't know why everybody likes it. it sounds like a lullaby for 95% of the song. then it rocks for about 20 seconds at the end and that's it.

what the heck is "good" about that ?

OK - If we are talking strictly rock and nothing else then I would probably have to say Aerosmith - walk this way (Note NOT the run DMC version, the original) or Guns and Roses - Sweet child of mine.

Its not strictly rock but 'Going Underground' by the Jam is the best song ever

(Even if it was knocked off number 1 by the bloody awful 'the lion sleeps tonight')

hrm... hard choice. I'd have to go with Freebird by Skynyrd. Either that or Hells Bells by AC/DC. But Freebird's better I think.

For me it boils down to Comfortably Numb, or Stairway.

Close runners up are Highway Star by Deep Purple, and Bohemian Rhapsody.

I believe the title is " While my guitar gently weeps" I know a silly spelling error. Its my favorite Beatle song and thus my favorite song of all time although another Beatle song was voted the best ever by the music industry. That being "In my life" a truly beautiful and meanful song.

There are places I’ll remember
All my life though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I’ve loved them all

But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I’ll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I’ll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more

Though I know I’ll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I’ll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
In my life I love you more

In case any of you have never heard it heres a link. Is there anyone here who never heard this song?

I for one wouldn't debate with Lemmy and his wart.
Don't you just love how he *spits* the word "forever" in the line
"That's the way I like it, baby. I don't wanna live forever"?. Rock'n'Roll!! :guitarist:

Best Rock Song? I am a Rock by Simon & Garfunkle. Good topic. I think the rock has been unjustly ignored in music, except for sedimental songs. ~D

Nevermind me, I just had one of those episodes where the word "rock" didn't look like it was spelled right. It has passed now that my medication has taken effect. :dizzy2:

The best rock song ever is Feelings. It's so great that I can never remember the name of the guy who performs it. Such sincerity, such passion ... surely everyone here must agree??

Gah redneck music ~D I hate that stuff believe it or not. I dont care much for Skynard or the Allman Bros and I really hate Alabama .They all have some nice guitar work though. Give me British rock anyday.

Yeah ... I will always like Skynyrd as I grew up on their stuff, remember vividly the day the plane went down, and was complimented by Billy Powell on my keyboarding. BUt I've never been able to get into the Allmans, 38 Special, etc. They just couldn't hold a candle to Skynyrd, and I only need one good Southern rock band to listen to, as I don't listen to that style very often.

Dude! That happens to me all the time, I jsut look at a normal, very simple word and I'm half convinced that I didn't spell it right.... Maybe we both have some deep psychological disorder ~:inquisitive:
