What am I missing here?

Im playing as the Pols, and am trying to trade with the Danes.
I have a port, merchant, and shipyard in my province. The Danes have a port in Denmark that Im trying to trade with. I have a ship in the Baltic and another off the coast of Denmark, so the trade route is linked. Yet when I click on my port it tells me that its generating 0 income.

I've only had the set-up for 3 turns, so does the process take a few years to begin working?
Also, Im neutral with the Danes. Do I need to Ally 1st?

any help would be appreciated

The money from the port is the money earned from incoming trade. You need to check the trade building, the money you earn from outgoing trade is shown there. Also when you click on the list that shows all your provinces and you click on one of the provinces it shows how much you own per trade good and to wich provinces you are exporting them.

For trade to work effectively, there needs to be no neutral or enemy ships in the corridors between your province and theirs.

At least, I think...

Only enemy ships block trade. Neutral ships are...well, neutral. ~;)

yes I found my port didn't generate any income but, my tradepost make about 600 fl. I think all income go to the tradeposts and this in my all ports and all compains I have played in MTW-VI ~

Im pretty sure your right, you need to build a port and a merchant to starting getting trade income. I havent noticed what role ships play, other then to say that I have always built them in the adjecent sea zones to my ports with merchants.

I assume if you have a port and a merchant you will make money.

Correct. A port doesn't generate income. A merchant (tradepost) does.

A port is needed in both your province and in the one you're trying to trade with.

You do not need to be allied, not being at war is enough (i.e. neutral or allied).

There needs to be an uninterrupted chain of ships connecting both provinces.

Ships from countries you are at war with blockade a sea lane. You can check for this by pressing 'V' - open sea lanes will show up as green on the map.

I think this should cover it all. :book:

The port scroll shows the income of imported trade products. The AI seldom trades because it does not build enough ships, but when it does, you receive a percentage of what they earn. This represents taxes on imported products. The percentage is 20% of what they earn, if I recall it correctly.

Off course, the AI also makes money by taxing the products you export.
