I keep getting attacked by protectorates. I try to use protectorates to help manage empires. However as often as not I will be attacked by one (50/50) . In my last game I was attacked by a protectorate who aside from me had no allies and no enemies and just to be sure I checked after the attack and they only had me as an enemy and no allies.

Is this just another fun bug to add to the protectorate status or does anyone here know what is happening? :help:

No idea I have never made a protectorate, it is just too hard to get them to accept so if they do not give in to my giant army(s) I crush them and move on.

Them being any other faction....

On getting protectorates:
Success seems to be a % with very few and small variables. I have asked medium sized empires with 15-20 territories to submit in exchange for added territories and huge amounts of cash (over 200k) and they say no. Only to have them say yes in the same diplomacy effort a few offers later for only 30k (I offer protectorate status a half dozen or so times during negotiations in one turn)

Why I use protectorates even though they are bugged:
I find maintaining a huge empire and the populace difficult (minimally those cities on the opposite side of the map). If for instance I am Carthage I will push Egypt until their only city is Antioch, negotiate a protectorate, and then start to give them the surrounding provinces to manage. Since it all counts towards the 50 who cares, once you get past the early game its not like money is ever an issue.

it's not that hard i once had five protectocrates just tell them you give them a million for 200 turns they'll accept and then cancel the payment

protectorates attacking you is a bug, like them draining your treasury.

they were meant to count as part of your province total, give you military access, and never be able to attack you or unilaterally get out of the protectorate status.

Once they are a protectorate you cannot take any land they had once they became a protectorate. Heres what happens and a sample. I had Carthage as a protecorate and gave them Corduba, they already had Palma and Carthago Nova. Spain takes Carthago Nova so I go reqonquer it with all intentions of giving it back to Carthage but no diplomat within 1 turn of a Carthage city. So they attack Carthago Nova and break the protectorate. Now what Carthage ca'nt do is attack Caralis because they did not own it at the time of there protectorate status. So if you conquer a protectorates lands prepare to give it back or prepare for war

I played Julii and got a senate mission in which I had to make Dacia my Protectorate. I succeed quite easily because the faction was already weaken but my stupid Ally, the Brutii attacked my protectorate, now what the hell was that for?
The Game is fully of silly Allies bugs bugs bugs...

At least this is the first time they have tried these new options, hopefully they will fix them in the next version. I need to try to use protectorates, maybe as the senate, cause that is my screw around campaign.
