Battle of Stamford Bridge 1066

Military strategy game in which contestants recreate historical battles, presented by Richard Hammond. It's 1066AD and the Eagers family from Surrey step into the shoes of the English King as they attempt to repel a mighty Norse invasion at the Battle of Stamford Bridge.

quite entertaining tonite, though after only 2 episodes i think its safe to say that theyve made it easier to win the battles. in neither episode so far have the contestants faced a prepared, organised opponent. i did love those norse and saxon skins though. and the bit with the lone berserker was cool :)

It was too easy man, i don't like this new layout and the team get too much info, hope they get smashed next week ~D

The units look class though, i smell the fall of rome as an expansion pack(fingers crossed)

I hope next week the have a battle that requires a bit more thought than: get over the bridge as fast as you can, now kill, kill, kill.

As for a hush, hush way to get hold of them - emule has most of the 1st series at the mo, just dont tell anyone ~;)

Yeah, they strategy consiste mainly in charging head on.... not too sophisticated...

It isn't too fun if they have better units, have the chance to reorganize, and outnumber the enemy, is it?

Yes, it's a pity that the battle last night consisted of having more, and better troops than the opponents. To be fair to the family they played it right, but I can't help feeling the Norse should have put up a bit more of a fight, and stayed around longer even when the odds were against them. Having an overwhelming English force made getting to the bridge relatively easy, and not having the Norse camped across the other side in the traditional total war 'U' shape made for a very easy crossing.

That said, I quite like the new format, at least once the battle gets going. Not so fussed with the first 10 minutes of each episode though - I don't really give a monkey's about the contestants, and the on-screen selection of the generals is a waste of time.

Here's hoping for something a little more challenging in future weeks. Not asking for it to be heavily weighted against the player (they are supposed to be 'amateurs' after all), but something that requires a little more than 'gather everyone together, move forward steadily, smash through the enemy' would be nice. Even if it's just them having to make sure they use the correct counters for the enemy units at the right time (if anyone can point out what the difference was last night between throwing the spearmen in and throwing the fyrdmen in, then congratulations).

Cheers,

Rob.

Well, although I do prefer the old format for the show, I do still find it fairly interesting, although not as much fun. They really should make it more of a challenge, and get rid of the pauses. I do like the new skins though, they really do look good, and I can only hope we get to use them ourselves. MTW 2 for the next in the series?, even though I would prefer a different era next time, I would certainly buy that.

I think this season is shaping up better than the first, so far. With the skirmish and the pauses, they give the teams more chance to get familiar with the situation. The first season too often was like watching a newbie try to juggle or some such. Yes, it was watchable but it was in a road-crash fascination kind of way and ultimately rather infuriating (I was often reduced to yelling at the teams).

However, aside from the new format, the first two teams have also been aided by having had pretty decent leading generals - fair grasp of tactics, sound appreciation of strategic situation and very able at directing their teams.

BTW, those huscarls etc made me wonder how hard it would really be to do a MTW2!

i miss them scouting out the enemy armies and learning about their troops properly. TC2 is ok but i prefer the old format.
