That's really a lovely site. The bust of Hannibal ... do you suppose that was made by the Romans? Did they sculpt their favorite enemy? Or is that a little something that survived the ruin of Carthage? I had always wondered what he looked like, and I assumed every image of him had been destroyed, if not by time then by the Romans.
Just wondering. Heck, it's probably a 16th century impression or something equally dispiriting. But I can wish ...

It might be the real thing have at this site http://www.tourismtunisia.com/culture/museums.html, if it is real it will probably be there or you might find a link . I can't remember seeing anything like that when I visited the remains of Carthage in Tunisia, not much there, only a few piles stone and a few broken columns and we only had 15 minutes to look round which really pissed me off but what was very impressive was the amphitheatre at Eljem. If I can get my scanner working I'll post some pics of them when I get back from holiday.
Forget the link no pics of Hannibal
Perhaps I'm HTML-impaired, but I didn't find many images on that link. Although ... a couple of friends of mine are teaching in Tunisia right now, I suppose I could email them about it. "Hi, haven't written in months, hope the baby's well, and by the way, could you find me an accurate likeness of Hannibal?"
No, I don't suppose that would go over too well. I'll have to send them a few "normal" emails first, you know, soften them up. Can't show my hand too quickly.
