I wasn't quite sure where to put this but, if it's in the wrong place i'm sure i'll be moved.

I'm thinking of starting up a mod, and I would just like a little asistance as to where to develop my skill in cetain areas, in other words what guides can everyone recomend to me to learn how to model and skin R:TW units and such, if all goes well we may see my mod concept soon rather than later.

Many thanks to you all.

For modding you'll want or need several programs.

For basic unit stat modding:
A good basic text editor. Word or word pad are adequate.
A file comparison program. There are several good freeware programs available
Unpacking software. This allows you access to thumbnails, unit pics etc. It's available at this website.
A unit editor is optional. Frankly I like manipulating the text files directly but you may wish to use a unit editor.
If you want to edit the thumbnails and unit/building pics you'll need a 2-d art program. Microsoft paint or something similar is adequate

modeling
you'll need 3D max. A plug-in has been developed to help with RTW modding and is avialable at this website.
Textures editing requires a 2-D art program.

Animations are outside my scope of experience.

Thanks very much tom, would you be so kind as to tell if winace would be fine as a "file comparison" and as a "Unpacking software" ?

also where might I find a unit editor ? have the lordz released they're Rtw unit editor tool yet?

as for the 3DMAX plugin is it the cracker what name being's in V?
(it's phrased like that because I can't remember his name...)

also would MSoft paint or paintshop pro would for the "2d art program" to which will be used to texturing?

Hopefully Profeser might see this and aid me in the "how to animate: area

:charge:

Would there happen to be a free trail of 3dmax? if not how much does it cost?

Once again thanks.
