Not sure if this is possible as I cant find any reference to it in Start pos etc. or anything very helpful on the forum search, I Just wanted to lower the Zeal in late, in a few Catholic provinces.
Cheers for any help or info folks,

I think zeal is directly related to the king and governor piety.
You should mod them to have low piety and high dread, that should do.
Also, vices like atheist or pervert quite lowers the zeal.
Maybe placing an inquisitor or grand inquisitor would help too.

Belated thanx,
I thought you might might be able to lower the individual provincial starting zeal somewhere. Modding my generals might make them easy prey for those pesky Inquisitors but cheers anyway.

I made a quick search in the startpos files but it seems there is no zeal modifier.
The only trick that comes to mind is to mod a non vital building to lower zeal (Inn or Brothel might be useful, as the former isn't needed as soon as you build a castle and it gets far from the front lines and the latter is useful only if fully developed) and place is where needed.
I'm sure some expert modder will come with better tips but this should do the work...

How about creating additional EVENTS.TXT type entries?

There are already some events in the game which dampen zeal in certain sets of provinces. (Usually involve a scholastic/rational type person or a poem or a popular story is published, which diverts the populace from religious matters). If you can find the entries for these and see how they implement the zeal-dampening effect, then you could control when, where and by how much the reduction occurs.

You needn't search the history books for causes, just cut the description down to "Zeal is in decline across western Europe as <plausible excuse here> gives cause for people to question their faith. -10% zeal in England, France, Germany and Italy".

Unless you want it to happen subtly, without alerts being fed to the player? ~;)

We can't alter or create events. The entries there are only the messages you receive. Hell, we can't even alter the V&V's.

Gah! I thought it might be possible to get away with a parchment with no graphics on it. Nevermind...

No! Was that stuff with parameters in it just a hallucination I had that day? Please say it aint so.
