My apology if somebody did this before.

I want to see some ideas about what are the R:TW traits on ancient generals like Hannibal or Scipio Africanus (or AntiochusIII? ha ha)

I'll do Pyrrhus of Epirus - feel free to criticize and revise. ~D

Trait : Legendary Commander (Everyone does, or else he would be unknown), Glorious Fool (I feel as if this was made for Pyrrhus..) Conquering Hero (Because he does conquer, he just couldn't hold on to what he conquered.) Oh well, I'm sure he has more but I couldn't think of anything else. Is he an inspiring speaker or something? No history recorded it, as far as I know.

Anyone would help me do it? Say, Hannibal? or Arminius? or Julius Caesar?

I will do..... guess who Uesugi Kenshin!

1 Drunk, he not only drank a little sake, he drank a little sake all the time!
2 Monk, later in his life he became a Buddhist monk and gained the name Kenshin
3 Traditionalist, he stood up for the old ways and could defeat the new ways, aka guns and conscript armies
4 Foe of Shingen, He fought Takeda Shingen so many times at Kwanakajima he must have had some special insight, hate, or desire for the lands of Takeda Shingen
5 Great Warrior, Kenshin was not just a general, he also fought in his battles and did not shy away from a fight
6 Stealthy, at the 4th Battle of Kwanakajima Kenshin led his army silently across a river, I think it was skill not luck
7 Vassal, for much of his life Kenshin or as he was then known Nagao Kagetori was a vassal to the Uesugi clan, this must have left some sort of mark.

Others feel free to add!

Thanks for the Uesugi Kenshin's detail, err.. Mr. Kenshin.

So...To make it a little more applicable to R:TW traits.
1. He was a drunk... or just a social drinker (+influence!), since he's so cool, I don't want him to get drunk. ~
2. He's a monk... Hmm... Say, Reveres the Gods? (sp?)
3. Ha! This one must be Plain Japanese Virtue!
4. So it's like "Despise Takeda Ways" (The Takeda and their horse-riding, gold-mining, and all-conquering ways really annoys this man. Ha! Let them fight him on the ground, like samurai!) :charge:
5. I must borrow Medieval's traits for this one, like he said: Great Warrior!
6. Spymaster+Assassin Master! (Kenshin the Cunning Killer!)
7. Vassal? He's a minion? So sad. (The data called this trait "arse.")

Oh, and a question: What does Kenshin means? ~

Actually he was not an assassin master, he just knew how to make his army shut up and walk quietly..
Not all japanese were traditionalist, Oda Nobunaga used conscript armies and I think guns as well and others also used guns and conscripts.
Kenshin was not that sort of minion, he was just used to sort of working for and coming to the aid of saomeone else, no idea how that would work in the game....
I forgot one he was also good at working both the military and the economy, so maybe buerecrat or something like that....

Kenshin was such a good general that even drunk he was one of if not the best japanese general of all the Sengoku Jidai period...
BTW I think the Pyrrhus(sp?) one is pretty good, sadly rthough all I know of him is from RTW and this forum cause my history class sucked, no cool military details, we had to add those to our Sparta, Turkey and Mongol projects....

Here's a quick stab at Hannibal;

Legendary Commander
Goes without saying
Cavalry Commander of Genuis
Cannae is one of many examples of this
Scarred
Suffered an eye infection while campaigning in Italy, subsequently losing an eye

I've only just begun The War with Hannibal, by Livy so I'm sure I'll think of more as I read on. Please feel free to add, and very clever idea for a thread!

Oh, about the assassin thing, sorry about that. I'm just kidding, I thought every Daimyo of the age used assassins.

Of course I know Nobunaga is the first to use guns "effectively" though the Shimazu clan used them first in some battle I couldn't remember the name. How else could he conquer so much in his lifetime?

So, Kenshin is like a vassal of the Uesuki clan similar to Ieyasu to the Imagawa and the Oda, except they're a little more cooperative that once the poor. Uesuki's got killed Kenshin assume leadership, right?

Pyrrhus was a great general, yes. After the Roman showdown he left Tarentum to Sicily where he busted Carthaginian asses until the Greeks on the island became suspicious and stopped supporting him. That's when he made his famous quote predicting the Punic Wars. After he got back to Epirus he built a new army and fought against Antigonus II (sp?) and drove Antigonus out of Macedon, he headed south for Greece where Antigonus still hold some territories but, as you know, after some successes the poor lad got himself killed at Argos. His youth, however, was spent being hostages to several men until once he really assumes power in Epirus he still faced crisis after crisis (Like Demetrius's arrival in Macedon, or Demetrius's defeat which means Pyrrhus had to become a hostage of Ptolemy Soter.) At last after Ptolemy Soter sent Pyrrhus back to Greece as an "agent" to ensure Egypt's influences in the bloody affairs of the age could Pyrrhus realized his ambitions.

So sad about this would-be great general. Oh! And he was known as "the eagle."

I have only played Samurai warriors once, I was Kenshin though, and my friend was Hanzo...

Yes Kenshin took leadership after the Uesugi lord died. I learned all of this from working on the SJ mod and from research I have done after joining the forum...

Oh I just think of a new guy : Caligula! ~D

This is Caligula, the best general ever:
1. Unhinged Loon (He's insane.)
2. Dangerously Mad (He is!)
3. One of the Gods (He thinks he is.)
4. Bloodthirsty (Well, you see...)
5. Uncontrollable Rage (Yeah, he's insane, after all.)
6. Pathetic Attacker (Concerning the "Britannia Expedition.")

He also has some cool ancillaries:
1. Senatorial Horse (CA's special for Caligula, I bet.) :charge:
2. Mistress (His own sister, Drusilla.)

That is the general who is better than Hannibal. He is really cool, Caligula, emperor of Rome.

He also should have:

Untrustworthy guards: -2 personal security, his guard killed him......
Hedonist: He loved wine women and song... a bit too much with the women.
