Found what I think may be another bug with the AI last night, but I doubt it's moddable. I was defending a siege and had beaten off (so to speak) all the enemy infantry, and they (the Numidians) were left with masses of missile cavalry. I had the remnants of three militia hoplites (18, 32 and 87) guarding a gap in the wall, but they were misbehaving so there wasn't the 'wall of spears' you'd want.
The Numidian cavalry had used up all their ammo, so they decided to charge en masse through the gap. Cavalry against phalanxes wouldn't normally be a problem (even with them using the wrong stats :furious3:), but as there were so few hoplites and so much cavalry, my men would easily have been swamped and flanked. But - and this, I think, is the bug - it appeared that despite having no ammo, and the fact that they're trying to charge me, the cavalry was still in skirmish mode, so they'd charge up to my men, but before they engaged they'd turn and wheel away, with my men killing maybe one or two stragglers each time. They had three units, and they took turns wheeling in, looking threatening, then turning tale and running. It all looked quite professional, in a way. It went on for about ten minutes...
It could have just been a bit of weird AI, in that, they're programmed to take the city, and thus to go through the gap in the wall, but when they saw the hoplites they changed their minds. However, what makes me think it was a bug is that the units weren't routing away, and were in fact still 'eager', also, they'd never actually engage, the first horses would get to within a few feet of my front line and turn away. They just looked like they were skirmishing. It's not a particularly fatal bug,but I wondered if that sort of behaviour could be modded or whether it was hard coded. Anyone?
