No chance of this going into a patch, about 0,00001% of going into another game but, still, here goes:

Since it's a bit dumb that defending a passage with a fort is harder then if you just leave the army standing there without building one, why not give the owner of the fort a chance to start a defending battle in open ground or just in front of the fort when an enemy army first tries to siege it?

The logic of this would be "Here comes the enemy, let's use our previleged positon to block their path" instead of "Here comes the enemy, let's stay traped inside our fort starving and die, or try to fight them while exiting the fort, wich is much easyer then just waiting for them outsie"

Now, I know when you saly forth (is this correct?) you can place some troops just in front of the walls, but still... makes less sense.

anyone care to comment?

no, sallying forth you cannot put any troops in front of the walls :( which is bad since that renders seige equipment useless (it cannot be pulled trough the gates for some reason).

Check again, yes you can - with forts at least. ;)

There's a 3, 4 meters space in front of the walls were you can put some spread-out infantry.
I've done this, and am using no modding whatsoever...

I think that's a good idea. Makes the fort a little more useful

On the placing units topic, it also works when salying out of a non-stone wall.

Did it just yesterday...

...losing 700 men and 2 generals with it. :furious3:
