I was playing, you guessed it, Rome: Total War one day and after finding out that the Seleucids, Armenia, and Numidia had copycat legionnaires, it got me thinking, what if the Barbarians had Legions? hmmmm...German Legionnaire, like a Roman one, except bearded and using a longer sword, more in the style of a barbarian flag bearer. This in turn got me thinking of all kinds of crazy stuff (Aaaah! Cataphract Chariots! Run for your lives!).

I want to see what crazy fused and/or mutated unit that everyone elses' silly little minds conjure up.

Examples:

Pontic Heavy Elephants
Legionary Hoplites
Woad Riders

etc. :rtwyes:

Well at least that 1 could be historical to a degree. If only you could save dead family member's heads from the enemy and wait for a siege. That's how the Romans returned Hannibal's brother(head) to him, not in a siege though.

Too bad the barbarians can't have reforms. After having 3-8 minor cities should allow some kind of reform.

Even the conqueror has culture changes. The Romans took on some of the Greek ways. So why would'nt the Barbarians take on some of the Greek/Roman ways if they actually went for occupation of the south. And Atilla the Hun did'nt occupy he looted.

Actually the Galatans had immitation legionaries, they were Gauls in asia minor. But since they aren't in the game they gave there legionaires to armenia.

Yea I remember hearing of a "Celtic Legion" before, it was a long time ago, and from what I can remember they were very effective and were nearly the equals of their Roman counterparts in discipline, training and effectiveness. However due to the long training time and a lack of resources they werent able to be replaced very quickly unlike Rome's armies and thus met defeat. I'd always figured it was somewhere in Northern Gaul or even Souther Brittania or what not but it wouldnt be hard to believe that it was from a tribe in Asia Minor after all.
